In that haul, the 11-snake appeared more than the 9-snake!

EDIT: Just to say -- the 11-snake appeared 21 times, with the 9-snake appearing only 4 times. Is this normal?

We're already at 4.444 trillion objects. Is it just me, or has the search sped up over the past few days?

Re: Thread For Your Useless Discoveries

I have recently been looking at 2xN patterns of 50% density; that is, there is one cell per column. All the 2x2 patterns die from low population. Only one 2x3 pattern survives: the blinker. Before I tell you about 2x4, I noticed that the patterns can be expressed with binary, as such: 1010101111001...

It now prevents any comments containing the substring 'href' (try it for yourself!), which seems to match 100% of the spam comments and 0% of the other comments.
I really regret trying now. That should teach spammers, though...!

Re: Soup search results

Sorry if this is unhelpful, or even just irrelevant, but I have calculated that there is around a 6/10 chance that we will have a 13-snake by the time we reach 10^13 objects. I can give numbers on all of the snakes up to 31, but the higher the cell-count the more likely I am wrong. :? EDIT: I got th...

Re: Thread For Your Useless Discoveries

I was looking at how two P30 Glider streams interact; most reactions are just "place an object, destroy the object." But that is not the case with the two-glider mess! After around 2.8M generations, one of the Glider streams has punched through the cloud, and the other... I'm sure this reaction is k...

Re: Million-Pound Challenge!

That is impossible because no pattern in that rule can escape from it's building box. Any cell outside the building box has up to 3 neighbours inside. Therefore, for a cell to be born outside there already has to be a cell outside. Therefore for a pattern to be a spaceship, it has to have cells out...
