3 Gliders move a block

I found a weird reaction which moves a block. I found it When I was bored. I just put random gliders around a block to see what happens. Anyways, it moves the block up one pixel. Here it is: x = 132, y = 126, rule = B3/S23 2bo$obo$b2o7$4bo$2bobo$3b2o6bo$12bo$10b3o2$16bo$14bobo$15b2o19bo$34bob o$35b2...

Re: Big A gun

Could someone work on that one? I've discovered that I'm good with glider synthesis. I suppose it might be my "specialty", as many people say. Anyways, after about a half an hour of tinkering, thinking, and making sure the wrong gliders don't collide, here's the finished product: x = 73, y = 83, ru...

Re: Finally trying out stable Herschel tracks...

I still don't quite understand how people make stuff like glider-to-LWSS converters and patterns that do cool things with this. Yeah... My question remains. It seems this thread has changed topic to partial H-to-G converters. Or has this question been answered, and I can't find it in the thread, bu...

I've just found one with 30 seconds of tinkering which deletes a block. Another almost-H-to-G converter.

Finally trying out stable Herschel tracks...

I've been playing around with Life for a while, and I've made lots of interesting patterns, but I've never gotten into Herschel tracks. I've decided to try because of the computation and complicated things you can create with them. After lots of searching for non-".lif" resources for Herschel tracks...

Re: First infinite growth in 2x2 (B36/S125)?

I don't. This is very cool. It can easily be modified:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 9, rule = B36/S125
4bo$3bo$2bo$6bo$o4bo$o2bo$obo2$2bo!
Doubled growth rate. Are there any glider rakes known? It may be possible to make a breeder.

Re: Census Program Idea

This would probably have to be done on one computer, probably the server. I have learned from my own experience with programming and things like networks and torrents that anyone can send "poisoned", messed-up data, and plus, it would probably take more CPU to download the results than to run it you...

Re: Some glider syntheses

Earlier this year, while playing with one of my tiling scripts, I found a glider reaction that shifts a block by (14, 1), that is 14 cells across & 1 cell down, sending a glider back in the process. But it requires gliders on tracks that are only separated by two cells, and I don't know how to get ...

Ugh... There's so many good search programs that use terminals/consoles and I don't know how to run them... I am a Java programmer. I wish someone could make a GUI version of these in Java, so everyone can use them, not just the computer savvy and people with the ability to compile C and C++.

New Glider Synthesis

I created a glider synthesis of Tim Coe's period 16 spaceship/puffer engine, which is identical to the conventional synthesis, except it uses gliders from only 2 angles. It may be useful in rake guns. x = 39, y = 77, rule = B3/S23 36bo$36bobo$36b2o8$26bo$26bobo$26b2o10$16bo$14b2o$15b2o11$13bo$5bo5b2...

WOOT! YESSS!!! :D I've finally made a breeder! It's completely original! It's a period 120 rake gun. I didn't try to pack it into a tiny space, I just wanted quadratic growth. It's been my goal for ages. Here it is: #CXRLE Pos=-65,-896 x = 333, y = 904, rule = B3/S23 301b2o$299bo3bo$298bo5bo13b2o$29...

Re: Switch Engine Spitter-Outter

To make it grow quadratically, you would also need something that creates switch engines on the fly, correct? I don't know off-hand of any such pattern. Yeah, I've made a pattern that does that... It's just I want to turn it into a quadratic grower. My pattern so far puffs along, creating a new swi...
