Re: Star Wars Rule

Wow! Complex signal circuitry is possible in Star Wars! Do you think it would be easier than WireWorld in some aspects because of having not only signals but gliders as well? Perhaps a universal constructor could be built! By the way, a few objects: x = 303, y = 257, rule = 345/2/4 162.4C.C2.C.C2.C$...

Look what happens when you take a mango and extend it:

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 6, rule = B3/S23

It's clearly a problem with the Gecko layout engine, since Camino has the same problem and it's based on Gecko too.

Re: My CA - Circle of Life

You save the rule table with notepad as a .tree (it might try to save it as .tree.txt; if it does remove it afterwards) and put it in the Golly Rules folder. Oh, and restart Golly. Then copying and pasting these patterns will work.

Re: My CA - Circle of Life

After some thought I realized that my replication breeder might produce strange results if the pattern the replicator creates is perturbed early on. I made another rake that threw a glider back into the breeder and found a spot where it didn't just make a mess. No only does it create a row of replic...

Re: General Discussion is red but no new posts

Didn't think it was quite as necessary as the rest of the post. Plus, I wanted to try out the forum markup.

It's very fun to
play

Code: Select all

around
with!

The above mess was quite unnecessary. (Should I make it small? :D)

By the way, why are most of the topics on this forum by Elithrion?

Wow. I thought I explained it awfully but people seem to get it! I did think about this independently, and I had no idea it was related to calculus.

Re: Golly scripts

Yay! I've already made my first script! Draws a box around the current selection, which has to have odd x and y values. (Is there a way I could fix that? I could up the spacing to two for certain directions when the width and height are odd or even, but that'd be inconsistent.) ################ ####...

General Discussion is always red for me... Looked through every single page of GD and there are no red threads. This has been bothering me for over a week.

Re: Synthesis for period 16 oscillator.

Yeah, that soup would be huge... But for a billiard table-ish oscillator like this, this one doesn't look to uncommon compared to others.

So, is anyone else going to weigh in? I'm sure if we work together be could put it all together.

Re: I need some help using Golly

1. In the preferences, go to control, and then to the various algorithms. They all have memory text boxes. 2. In Golly, the board is infinite. 3. There's a script you can run i somewhere in the Scripts forum that can do that, but otherwise no. 4. Since the board is infinite, to randomly seed, you ha...

Err... I don't even know what to call it...

Years ago, in elementary school, as my mind wandered I would often think of random things. I thought of how people could all perceive different colors (like in RGB, instead someone sees GBR) but never realize others are seeing differently. (which I later found out Einstein talked about in his though...

Re: Golly scripts

I'd like to get started with Python (Gosh, I haven't used it in years!) in Golly, and I was wondering: How should I get started? Is there anything special I need to know? (Like what weird coordinate system Golly must use since it's an infinite plane?) And just as an example, could someone create a s...

If other gates were to be created, what do you think would be the concept of how they would work? You don't need any examples, just how it would work if you did. For an OR gate I've tried making something that creates a glider using the two electrons created from a single glider to a plus for both s...

Wow, I didn't think it would be that easy to create arbitrary-period guns, but that's two whole examples with completely different mechanisms! The electron split (Yeah, I'll call them electrons I guess.) shown in the second one is very interesting, and opens up a bunch of possibilities. Had an idea ...
