Wow, the reaction that makes the caterpillar-looking thing expand the other way as well is very interesting... Oh, and that thing is a spaceship, just a strange one. Not all of the parts move. Look at what this puffer creates behind it; if there is a clean way to end the back you'd have a very interesting spaceship. By the way, if you watch for a decent amount of time you can see other patterns the spaceship spawns.
