Re: Synthesising Oscillators
If there's a way to covert a [8.5] to [10.4], then it should be possible to convert the [14P2.18] into [16P2.79]. Similarly, a conversion in the other direction could reduce [18.475] . x=29, y=81 10bo$8b3o8b2o$7bo10bo2bo$8bo10bobo$5bo2bo7bo2bob2o$4bob2o7bob2o$4bo10bo$3b 2o9b2o6$10bo$8b3o7b2o$7bo9bo2...

Please include summary of what you think the pattern is, and why you think it is of interest. As is, this latest posting is unsearchable, little more than noise.

Looks like a variation on what is already known.
The first step, placing the Block, is the same, but the trigger using a Pond appears to be new. The key is placing the Tub next to the Block in either case.

You might want to consider further reducing these collisions. That way you can more easily weed out the duplicates and redundancies. x=127, y=80 47b2o42b2o$48bo42bo$10b2o33b3o40b2obo$10b2o33bo41bo2bo27bo$6bo36bobo41bob o26b3o$5bobo35b2o43bo26bo$6bo107bobo$113bo2bo$114b2o2$20b3o$20bo87b3o$21b o57b3o2...

If you'd like to get nice sets of physical polyominoes, see Kaidon Enterprises--

I've bought several sets of polyominoes, polyiamond, polycubes and Penrose tiles from them.

Bob-- Thanks for the archive. Your task is to process these files and reply back to me with only a smaller archive of RLEs, where each RLE there contains a strictly cheaper (better) synthesis of the still life within according to your archive. I will be expecting – I need to fill in gaps that were l...

Re: Puzzles and "Project von Neumann"
If you are serious about this, you need to consider doing it in a dedicated application. One where the interface constrains the player's actions and only allows valid, legal operations and moves, and does not clutter up the view with controls and widgets that dont pertain to the puzzle you are tryin...

Re: Realizing CGOL a 3d tiling
If you are really serious about physical tiles, and since you want a small variety of small pieces, the one solution for bulk parts is a LEGO store. Years ago some of my coworkers put together a QR code in bricks to promote our mobile phone apps. At the store, LEGO has a "Pick-a-Brick" wall, and res...

Over the years I vaguely remember seeing pairs of bi-ponds appearing, but I don't remember the starting configuration, and don't want to dig around to find it. As for multiple Fishhook Eaters, that's new to me. In the future, people need to provide specific examples when making those assertions. The...

Version 1.0.1 is available. The database now has all stable objects to 20 bits, and oscillators and spaceships to 100. Includes another 100 Glider constructions, and fixed some bad entries.
Also, by request, object views include a link to their Catagolue page.

Re: RLE grammar
For the header line, I also allow "h=nnn" and "v=nnn" to specify absolute positioning. Useful when you need to coordinate multiple layers (for example, Glider constructions starting vs. ending bit patterns). I gave up trying to enforce the 70 character limit on output, and on input just ignore white...

Is it possible to make a link to open a browser and jump directly to the relevant Catagolue page for a given object? Yes, it is. Will add that to the list of improvements. On my iPad, the slightly orangey red of the Source-only cells and input gliders, is hard for me to distinguish from the dark re...

LifeCodex
LifeCodex , available in the Apple App Store, is an iPad app that functions as a UI wrapper for an SQLite database which contains tables of Life Objects and Glider Constructions. In the current version (1.0.0), it has all stable object up to 18 Bits, and all known oscillators and spaceships up to 3...

Re: A Broader Audience for Cellular Automata
If someone wants a project, try adding a UI (specific to the OS) that would display Catagolue results that were just reported that are "interesting". Or embed apgsearch in a UI so a user can see something happening that looks Life-like. When I was doing the object censuses last century (I looked, an...

I came up with something like this and used it for the 16 in 16 glider synthesis project. I'd forgotten about your notation. And that I'd written a decoder for it and that I haven't broken that code with all the other changes I've been making to my Life utilities. (Haven't had the need to do the en...

Re: A Formal Notation for Glider Syntheses
General questions-- Is the goal an encoding that is machine readable, human readable, both or neither? Are you trying to encode existing, known constructions, or generate and survey them automatically? And if automatically, is it exhaustive enumeration, or randomly like Catalogue? Specific to this e...

A suggestion:
When posting "something interesting", please include a short description of what makes it interesting. I look at that RLE and see nothing interesting, because I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for.

Re: Systematic survey of small patterns
One minor comment: Since all velocities will be integer ratios, you might want to use that instead of angle in degrees, to avoid future problems specifying knightship velocities. Or, since all known small spaceships travel in only 8 directions, maybe a compass rose (N, NE, etc) or even radians with ...
