Re: Pulling blocks orthogonally

Any chance of being able to move them back as well? The same thing can be done. It takes me more spaceships, though. Here's one way x = 57, y = 161, rule = B3/S23 25boo28boo$25boo28boo23$25boo28boo$25boo28boo23$25boo28boo$25boo28boo 5$20bo9b3o$19b3o7bobbo$18boobo10bo$18b3o7bo3bo$18b3o11bo$19boo8bob...

Re: Pulling blocks orthogonally

You could turn the block into a glider and back; e.g. x = 78, y = 173, rule = B3/S23 30boo44boo$30boo44boo29$30boo44boo$30boo44boo29$30boo44boo$30boo44boo 7$36bo$24b3o8b3o$24bobbo6boobo$24bo9b3o$24bo3bo5b3o$24bo10boo$25bobo3$ 39bo$38b3o$37boobo$37b3o$37b3o$37b3o$38boo14$24bo$23b3o$23boboo$24b3o$ 24b...

Re: Flyby Reactions

Here's a very incomplete, and possibly obsolete, file of "turn into glider" reactions where a passing spaceship convoy turns an object into a glider, or into a ship or traffic light that can be turned into a glider. x = 293, y = 302, rule = B3/S23 24bo57bo53bo52bo$12b3o8b3o44b3o8b3o40b3o8b3o39b3o8b3...

Re: Flyby Reactions

Here are some glider duplicators, mostly built from modified glider turners. I don't know of any general catalog of "flyby" reactions. Such a thing would be useful, but unless the search could be completely automated, might be impractical to create. x = 543, y = 433, rule = B3/S23 221b3o$106b3o111bo...

Re: New p59 oscillators

Here's a p59 5->6 glider reaction. x = 171, y = 195, rule = B3/S23 163bo$161boo$20b3o139boo$20bo$21bo11$147bo$36bo110bobo$12bo22boo110boo $10bobo22bobo$11boo8$168bo$oo158boo6bobo$obo156bobo6boo$o131bobo26bo$ 50boo80boo$25bobo22bobo80bo$26boo22bo$26bo8$153bobo$15boo128boo6boo$ 14boo102bo27boo6bo$16bo...

Re: triller's p30 thread

This isn't a "hammering" reaction, but it's fast and unconditional. Note that it also works on MWSSs, though it takes longer to recover. ................* ..............**. ...............** ................. ................. ................. ................. ..**............. *....*......**... ....

Re: triller's p30 thread

BTW, is there an absolute (any period, like the hammer reaction: two spaceships), p30, or p60 HWSS-to-LWSS converter? Do you care what happens if the HWSS is not present? I didn't find anything ready-made to do that, though at p60 at least, one could probably be built from this simple reaction: ......

Re: Spiders, spaceships and syntheses

Dave Greene sent me an e-mail message containing the following partial synthesis: ... The fact that a complicated predecessor like that exists doesn't really help, but finding a lot of them and watching them evolve is a good way to get clues about how to attack the problem. If I remember correctly,...

Re: Help needed with synthesizing my methuselah

What methods would you generally use to find syntheses such as these? In this case, I used gencols to search for 3-glider collisions whose product has a population of exactly 45 cells, then manually scanned the results for the target object. For some objects, there is no gencols filter that works w...

Re: Help needed with synthesizing my methuselah

Is it possible to synthesize the following form? ... Sure. Here are some ways to do it with three gliders. x = 188, y = 15, rule = B3/S23 bbobo27bobo37boo4boo30bobo30bo33bobo$bboo29boo36bobo3boo31boo29bobo34b oo$3bo29bo39bo5bo31bo30boo34bo$152bo32bo$152bobo30bobo$152boo31boo$60b 3o$3o30b3o26bo$bbo3...

Re: Spiders, spaceships and syntheses

I think that the next speed to go will be 2c/7, since the weekender is so small. Weekender predecessors have already been found, which looks promising. I've never been able to make much headway in constructing a weekender. If there are any recent results in that direction that I might not know abou...
