How to set up independent pattern collection....

Hi all. As you may know, I maintain a fleet of conway life "battleships." Some people find them interesting, but I don't know where to put them, so I have only been able to make a fraction of them public.

How would I go about setting up a downloadable pattern collection? Sorry for the dumb question.

Re: The Battleship Thread (Tribute to Platypus5)

Hi again. Where is everyone? Anyway, here is a Gelth ship that is really big. (Note: The gelth are not known for being good ship builders, so it actually isn't that strong for it's size. It cannot penetrate the armor of my "heavy assault" ship on another thread.) After seeing a relative "influx" of ...

Super-hard-to-destroy-battleship

Well, it has been very quite here, so I figure I would share a breakthrough battleship of mine. Creatively named "heavyassault," this ship's hull mostly consists of glider "shields." The ship can take a HUGE amount of punishment and come out undamaged on the sides, able to withstand an entire broads...

Re: The Battleship Thread (Tribute to Platypus5)

Nice ship! The only ship I have can survive against it is the Hammerhead, and it doesn't come out looking too good. The boat shields work nicely against almost all periods. There is just one issue: For some reason, p48 rakes seem to simply destroy the shields. p27 based, p45 based, and p72 based gun...

There we go! Thanks!

Hopefully, more battleships should be on their way.

How do I know if it is working. I don't seem to be getting any results in terminal, yet it appears to be doing something.

thanks! After some work, I got it functioning. Now, I just need to figure out the command syntax.

Thank you!

Re: How to use Gfind?

Thanks, but for some reason, I can't seem to compile gfind. It says "bash:gcc command not found"

I am going to try to look it up on my own, but do you have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Re: How to use Gfind?

Great! I'll write it up as time permits. Maybe we'll see new gunships - maybe even in other rules? I've been wanting to do gunships in other rules, or perhaps even "hybrid" ships if I get my hands on the proper code to run two rules at once. I have more conway life battleships at c/3, but I am not ...

How to use Gfind?

I am trying to begin searching for my own spaceships, but I don't really know how to use Gfind. All I found is a text document when I opened what I thought was a download link. Also, do I need to know C (or any computer language, for that matter) in order to use it? It says it requires platform-inde...

"New" C/3 Ship?

I am not sure if anyone has found this ship yet, nor if it even counts as "new." It was sort of staring me in the face, so I would be surprised if I am the first person to find it... It turns out that the arm on our favorite p45 c/3 puffer are actually 1/2 of a ship unto itself. It is a pretty small...

Help with C/3 edgesparkers?

I am trying to tinker with existing puffers to create customized outputs. (vs the ones that simply came with david bell's big box of puffers and rakes.) However, it is very hard to use the edge-sparkers and edge repair ships with output. Instead of perturbing the debris properly, the sparkers and re...

Re: Is it possible to reduce the width of this puffer?

Thank you! This is perfect! I was trying to create a (more) durable battleship that could take (relatively) heavy punishment compared to other ships One issue with what was simply named "assaultship" was that its "weapon system" (the p72 rake) was too wide and easily damaged if by the sparks created...

Re: Thread For Your Accidental Discoveries

In my quest for better p27 battleship guns/shield generators/etc. I accidentally made this rather pretty p54 ship. (or flotilla? Idk) It pushes a pair of internal blocks forward in an appealing manner. These blocks stabilize a rather violent internal reaction, and when removed, the reaction shoots o...

Cool! Given that seeds is based off of the same basic live/die based on neighbors concept, I imagine this table could be modified for high life, day and night, 2x2, etc. However, I actually don't know how to modify that script...... :( still, that would be great! Way to run 2 different life rules in same simulation?

I know of something called the "powder toy," and they have a section of various life-like rules. An interesting thing, however, is that you can run, say, 2x2 at the same time you run GoL at the same time you run Day and Night. They even have codes on how to deal with each other if the two collide or...

Thank you, Wojowu! I have other warships as well, if you want, but I think I am now going to divert some time to also tinkering with the puffers/rakes themselves. Finding small "shield generators" (block puffers) is hard. Yes, I know that weak spot. I feel no particular need to armor it, partially b...

Re: New c/3 puffer

Sorry to revive this, but I have been tinkering with the rakes here, and I found several things. Below shows a way to link these puffer engines together, allowing for arbitrarily wide puffers. When two of these a linked together, they produce a pretty-looking chain of beehives. Anything above that n...
