Re: 4c/83 growing wick (p150)
I would call this a slidegun rather than a wick. A slidegun is supposed to shoot a spaceship, and this pattern doesn't. Wicks in the usual sense involve an oscillator or spaceship component that needs a copy of itself on two sides for stability. Well, in wide sense, there is an oscillator, based of...

Re: Turn a spaceship salvo?
I'm not sure, if it helps, but here are couple of ways of getting r-pentomino, herschel and pi from colliding a glider and a spaceship salvo. All reactions leave the spaceship lane quite quickly, which allows quite a dense salvo. x = 105, y = 96, rule = LifeHistory 44.D47.3D$3.2D39.3D45.D.D$2.2D40.D...

Re: Geminoid Challenge
First of all, sincere congratulations to your great success! A geminoid made of just 44(.5) still-lifes is really beyond any expectations! There may be something still smaller than this, but I think it may be necessary to invent a new Herschel period quadrupler (or a new stable G-to-H) to get below ...

Glider-spaceship interactions
Is there a known reaction to turn a spaceship salvo into a spaceship moving in an orthogonal direction, triggered by a glider?
Code: Select all
/ glider

4c/83 growing wick (p150)
I've found a simple growing wick (I'm not sure whether such term exists, but I think that this kind of patterns definitely need a name). It moves forward 8 cells in 166 generations, making it p150 relative to the ether. It also lays a block every full period. The main reaction (2LWSS+G->G+B) can be ...

I didn't claim that it is the same reaction as in the buckaroo. But reflectors2.rle lists that p30 dependent reflector as well.towerator wrote:codeholic : itt's not the same reaction

This property of the queen bee is well-known. E. g. see reflectors2.rle in the Golly's pattern collection.

sed2d.pl - a self-suggesting addition to ptbsearch
I've written a quick-and-dirty Perl script for replacing a certain part of a pattern with something else. It is currently tightly coupled with the format used by ptbsearch, but suggestions are welcome. E. g. you want to search pi-heptomino perturbations. First you create an input file with the pi-he...

what was that about the knightship tagalong? It is based on an oblique reaction I discovered back in November 2007 while investigating backrake interactions with seemingly unending novelty. I have not posted the patterns yet because I need to dig through the various versions of Golly and sort out a...

Re: It´s not a Gosper Glider Gun !
I'd say, that anything, that just produces gliders using solely the following reaction, is a Gosper glider gun.
Stabilization doesn't matter.
Code: Select all
x = 17, y = 9, rule = B3/S23

Re: It´s not a Gosper Glider Gun !
It would be much more convenient for others to analyze your discoveries if you posted their RLE. Just copy the pattern in Golly and post whatever there is in the buffer.
But at the first glance it is a Gosper glider gun.

If you had followed the link I posted, you would have seen, that I referred not to Gosper glider gun itself, but to a multi-barreled gun, that is exactly what you've rediscovered.

Alan Hensel mentioned something very much like this a few months ago -- he called them "fluff relays". Well, the idea with one glider is not new. Gabriel Nivasch even wrote a script once, that searches for such kind of collisions: http://www.gabrielnivasch.org/fun/life/ I wondered, if another appro...

I'm afraid that anything more than a superficial search involving 5+ colliding objects is out of the reach of gencols. I think it's more probable to find (15, 15) block pusher with 3 gliders. Unfortunately I don't have a spare machine to start the search right away. Are you interested in more result...
