Re: Script for making animated gifs
I wish I had a script to do such a thing, all I'm doing is using an online gif maker to make them using "prt sc" for each frame, which isn't an ideal way to do it, since it takes a lot of time to do it, there's one in the golly scripts thread, but I doesn't have gridlines, which is why I'm not using...

Re: apgsearch v1.0
It handles them by applying a function called linearlyse(), which is a function that handles just about any pattern that exhibits linear growth such as puffers, wickstretchers, guns, and what you just mentioned.Scorbie wrote:How does apgsearch deal with growing ships?

Re: apgsearch v1.0
Is there any way that the overall census of all object types for a rule/symmetry could be displayed on one page (as opposed to merely 10-cell still lives, period 6 oscillators, etc.)? I believe this is the answer you're looking for, it comes from the previous apgsearch thread. Census entities have ...

Re: apgsearch v1.0
Ok... This time, I'm getting the hang of it, will be posting my first results in a few hours. Can you explain me how does symmetry works? You can go here for an explanation, it's where I explain how the symmetry notation works. For the symmetries starting with "D", those were changed, so that all n...

Re: apgsearch v1.0
I'm more interested in the number of unique objects, and how often such objects are turning up, so I've written the following script: Script ... This script is really useful, but you want to make a small change in the appropriate spot so it can scan symmetries with a "+" in it properly. # find all ...

Re: Soup search results
My latest haul in the D4_+1 symmetry has found a lightweight schick engine, and it takes ~60 ticks to emerge, which is more time than I expected. I'm really enjoying these symmetric search results that have been turning up. #C [[ THUMBNAIL ZOOM 4 LOOP 240 THEME 4 ]] x = 31, y = 31, rule = B3/S23 4o3...

Re: Golly scripts
After Adam made a change to soups so that they also include the rule, I had to make one small change to the script, but since the script assumes the current rule the pattern is in is the rule to search through, it doesn't make much of a difference, so here's the revised script (EDIT: changed script ...

Re: Golly scripts
You can just copy the rule in proper .rule format from somewhere on this forum, then go to Golly and paste as if you're pasting a pattern, and Golly does the work for you. Huh! Why didn't I know that! Thanks! Maybe a script-autosave script would be helpful? Or is there such a feature? Not that I kn...

Re: Golly scripts
I posted this short script in Tezcatlipoca's site a while ago. Just posting here for completeness. Maybe save rule/save scripts feature would be nice to add in the next version of golly. rule auto saver gets the rule file from clipboard and automatically saves the rule in the rules directory import...

Re: apgsearch v1.0
As for the auto-update idea, prompting the user only at the scripts startup would be the best way to go about that. I've been checking out the main census a lot, and I've noticed some objects have (at least to me) an excessive number of sample soups stored, check out pentadecathlon and loop , they b...

Re: Star Wars Rule
OK, I've looked through all the technology posted, but still there are two nagging questions: -> How do you delay a 6-cell spaceship an odd number of generations while keeping it along the same path? -> Is there a way to construct arbitrary-period triggerable clocks that could serve as Wireworld-st...

Re: Golly scripts
Here's a script that figures out if the specified object has been encountered by catagolue's records, and if so, finds the proper soups that generate the object (I borrowed some parts of apgsearch to assist): # find-object.py # This script goes to http://catagolue.appspot.com # and tells you if ther...

Re: apgsearch v1.0
From the asymmetric life search I see that we're missing only one 10 cell still life (10.15) ... Not anymore , all still lifes for the b3s23/C1 census from 4 - 10 bits has been filled in! Just 2 more before 11 bits is done(who knows how long that will be). Also, auto-updates sounds like a good idea...

Re: apgsearch v1.0
The B36/S125 C1 census listed the double version of the only known 2x2 wickstretcher as period 4, but it is still period 8, doesn't it?? Yes, but the way linearlyse() works is by checking the population, and finding the period by which the population oscillates instead of the pattern itself, which ...

Re: apgsearch v1.0
Also, when are the "D4 +4" (a mistyping of D4_+4) censuses getting moved to C1, which is their actual symmetry? Yes, C1 is the true symmetry, the post is on this very page , I hope those soups get moved over to the b3s23/C1 census eventually, but I wouldn't know if that's possible. It would be a re...

Re: apgsearch v1.0
So far, the "b3s23/C1" census has accumulated almost 300 million soup results in just a little over 3 days, I'm amazed. I have a minor suggestion for apgsearch that's not terribly important: have it find what version is available online, and if it doesn't match the version you have, it prompts you t...

Re: apgsearch v1.0
Is there a way to make a list of objects combining all the apgsearch hauls people have done for a given rule and symmetry, in order of frequency? Re: apgsearch v1.0
I'm certain that D4 by itself isn't a symmetry option, but on the census page, there's a search under this D4 option, yet the census seems to be C1 considering there's no abundance of symmetrical objects in its results.

I've been browsing through catagolue's life p2 objects , and there's only one occurrence of a griddle-type oscillator, and the inductor is a bit surprising. Re: apgsearch v1.0
No, it's not intentional at all -- do I need to change the offsets to make them overlap better Yes, for D4_x4 soups, both halves of the soup shouldn't overlap, but that leaves only the 2nd diagonal left, for which this bit of code fixes the problem, just two more conditionals in the appropriate spo...

Re: apgsearch v1.0
One question though, how do I change my contributor name from 'null'? I'm experiencing the same problem when creating a payosha256 key: the contributor name is null, even after recreating the key. The source code specifies that it can detect still lifes, oscillators, spaceships, puffers and guns. B...
