Re: Messages stick in outbox

Yep, dvgrn is right -- messages in the outbox are just messages that haven't been read yet. You can continue to edit them (or even delete them) while they are in the outbox. If your outbox being too full was causing you posting problems, I've raised the private message limit to 100 messages, up from...

Re: apgsearch v1.0

Fantastic work, calcyman :) I don't have much else to say, but I'm finally running some soups now. One question: are the URLs (like http://catagolue.appspot.com/object/xq3_mhqkzarahh0heezdhb5/b3s23) fairly stable, or might they change in the coming weeks? I'd like to add some of them as external lin...

Re: ConwayLife.com support jQuery?

I don't think I really understand the question. It doesn't currently make use of jQuery, no, but jQuery is a client-side technology, so pretty much any website works with jQuery, doesn't it?

Why?

Re: Wanna applet back plz!

Unfortunately, the applet is not coming back, for a couple of reasons: It hooked in very much with the site's server-side ASP code. As we're on a Linux server now, this would have to be rewritten entirely in PHP. It took several months to write the code the first time, and I just don't have enough t...

Since not yet, actually ;) It's currently in its testing phase and Dave got excited! We'll be making an announcement shortly.

Re: .rule extension not allowed

I have (finally) updated the board to allow .rule attachments on posts. .rle and .mc attachments are also now supported (though, as Dave mentioned, including the contents of these files directly in posts is preferable when it's reasonably to do so).

Re: LifeWiki updated

Yeah, unfortunately that pattern search box can't be easily fixed with the new version of MediaWiki... I'm not aware of a reasonably-functional alternative to the DynamicPageList extension, which was what made that search box (and the other search boxes, like the oscillator category page box) work.

Re: LifeWiki updated

Thanks guys -- both of those problems are now fixed. They were both caused by changes in the way that the DynamicPageList extension works with the new version of MediaWiki. Unfortunately it seems that some more complicated pages that use DynamicPageList (e.g., the oscillator category page ) are stil...

Re: LifeWiki updated

After some tinkering today, I finally got the old-style wiki links (e.g., http://www.conwaylife.com/wiki/index.php?title=Blinker) working again. But everyone please use the new-style short links (e.g., http://www.conwaylife.com/wiki/Blinker from now on :)

LifeWiki updated

Hey folks, Just letting you know that I updated the MediaWiki software from 1.16 to 1.23 (the latest stable release) today. It wasn't quite as smooth as I was expecting, and I suspect there will be a couple weirdnesses on the wiki over the next few days until I get everything sorted out. Please let ...

Macrocell and .zip support on LifeWiki

Golly macrocell files as well as .zip archives are now supported for pattern files on LifeWiki. Example pages where they are in use: http://www.conwaylife.com/wiki/Parallel_HBK http://www.conwaylife.com/wiki/Caterpillar Their usage on the wiki is very similar to RLE pattern files and the other file ...

Re: Spam on LifeWiki

Thanks for bringing this up -- I'll start going through and taking care of this now. I'll also see if I can find a MediaWiki extension that blocks SPAM a bit better than what we're using now, since it's starting to get ridiculous.

Re: Where's the applet?

Sadly, it had to be taken down a while ago because it used a lot of ASP for its more advanced functions (such as GIF-making), and the current server doesn't support ASP.

Re: Problem with 'Change Font Size' button?

Glad it's working OK for you now, Lewis. I'm sure there is a fix for this buried beneath many layers of phpBB Javascript, but I think a simpler solution would just be to remove the "Change Font Size" button altogether, seeing as almost every browser available nowadays has built-in resizing options a...

I've reverted that user's vandalism. As a result of this, I've also implemented the following change to LifeWiki: the only people now capable of moving pages on LifeWiki are administrators (Sokwe and myself) and trusted users (there are a handful of you). If you would like to be added to the "truste...

Re: Enumerating Still Lifes (in C)

Well, the computation randomly died (most likely a memory issue) after computing for several days. The still life counts for 1 - 8 cells are: 1, 2, 1, 6, 8, 23, 65, 337. The number of 9-cell still lifes is greater than 1300, but that's all I know. The still lifes themselves are attached.

Re: Enumerating Still Lifes (in C)

BTW Nathaniel, I saw a note on the wiki from a few years ago that you were enumerating still lifes for B3/S012345678. Any results yet? Very strange -- I have no idea what happened mid-computation back then that caused me not to keep/upload/finish computing the results. It's running again and I shou...
