Re: Pages with invalid RLE files

The next thing is probably to dive into the templates and figure out exactly why rle = true is required before LifeViewer will show up in pattern infoboxes, and whether we can somehow do something cleverer for the case where the raw RLE has been added to RLE:{pname}, but the script hasn't been re-r...

Re: Stable signal converters

Ow, no, I remember now -- the V-gun style is just so much easier to work with, and in this case only ten synchronized signals are needed. Maybe something like this? I went ahead and completed a G-to-(2-engine Cordership) using this V bottom. Repeat time 556: x = 527, y = 536, rule = LifeHistory .A$...

Re: Oscillator Discussion Thread

All possible Tanner's p46 pair constellations are evaluated? Nah. All 2-Tanner constellations are evaluated, but for 3-Tanner constellations I've just been looking for LWSS and HWSS guns. My search wouldn't catch a MWSS that is fundamentally different than the one already known. And the HWSS gun se...

Re: Massive spam attacks on the wiki (and forums?)

I've now updated the "trusted" list so that it includes everyone who has requested in here. GoldTiger -- you are already showing as "trusted" to me on the wiki. Is your username Goldtiger997 on the wiki? Are you getting any particular error message, or are editing controls just not appearing at all?...

Re: Enumerating Still Lifes (in C)

32-bit still life counts: Strict: 5716948683 Pseudo: 6123084116 And the already-known 32-bit triple-pseudo-still life is the unique pseudo still life of 32 or fewer bits requiring a decomposition into 3 or more pieces. The results for each of the 100 subsets of the search space for 24 to 32 bits are...

Re: Enumerating Still Lifes (in C)

As a follow-up to my previous post, I'm happy to report that Nivasch's 32-bit triple-pseudo-still-life was indeed found and detected by the script (in subset 21, if anyone is curious). Thus I can confirm that this is indeed the smallest >2 island pseudo still life that exists. I'll keep running the ...

Re: Enumerating Still Lifes (in C)

I really wanted to know whether or not there was a 31-bit triple/quad pseudo still life, so I ran the search for 31-bit still lifes. Numbers: 31-bit strict still lifes: 2299616637 31-bit pseudo still lifes: 2364815358 And as a bit of a double-check I confirmed that the 30-bit numbers output by this ...

Yeah, I think deleting the whole thread (assuming it doesn't have anything "worthwhile" in it) is the appropriate course of action in general.

Yep, the DYKs are on a (pseudo-random, somewhat hard to predict) daily rotation. They won't change until midnight (in some timezone---honestly I don't recall which) no matter what you do.

Probably extremely high. The vast majority of large patterns are GoEs, so unless the predecessors are very carefully chosen, they are likely to eventually hit a GoE wall.

Re: Massive spam attacks on the wiki (and forums?)

Yeah, I really don't want to permanently lock down the wiki to only trusted users. If Wikipedia can manage to let anyone and everyone edit, surely we can too. I'll look into AbuseFilter. If for nothing else, it can be used to slow down spammers if they do get through our spam-blocking measures (e.g....
