Re: LifeSuper rule

Tangential question: is there really a use case for a generic {Rule}Ultra being backward-compatible with {Rule}Super? The Super extension is good for annotations, pattern collections, and glider syntheses -- but do you really need six colors of trailless ON cells, three colors of with-trail ON cells...

Hm, someone decided to combine p20 with p16 -- makes sense. Only 16 gliders in all.

Is there a list somewhere of the bounties currently on offer?
Not really. I've been trying to get Ed Pegg to update the mathpuzzle.com Prize Page, but it just acknowledges that Mike Playle won the post-boojum reflector prize, without listing his replacement prizes.

Re: Thread for basic questions

what's our attitude towards money related things in the field of CA patterns. 1. could patreons be allowed? 2. would money rewards be accepted? Lifenthusiasts tend to be wonderfully ornery and opinionated. So "our attitude" isn't just NP-complete, it's undecidable -- each of us has our own attitude...

Re: Change the main page to a LifeViewer embed/relocate News

I recall there being an option to export images from lifeviewer, but it no longer seems to exist. There's still NOGUI: x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3/S1e2-e3|B3/S23 3o$2bo$bo! #C [[ NOGUI ]] As this post mentions, you can bring up LifeViewer, then right-click on the image and Save As..., if that's useful....

Re: Soup search results

It might be worth not separating LWSSes on LWSSes. It's hard to find soup-based syntheses for those when they just get separated! There's a practical problem with "not separating LWSSes on LWSSes". They're separated because the current census code separates them. I'm not really an expert here, but ...

That sounds like a new conwaylife.com subforum to me, similar to the old Patterns board but with a bit more restrictions and — um — higher purity in academic sense? I don't know how its relationship with the current conwaylife.com Home page will be like. I'm thinking more along the lines of the web...

I think the wiki front page is actually enough for that. Yup, the CurrentNews pane on the LifeWiki seems to do a fairly good job of collecting one-line reminders of interesting new developments. What the main page might be good for is an occasional more in-depth explanation of things that people mi...

Re: (10,1)c/88 pi reaction! Possible new macro-spaceship speed?

Might be new macro-spaceship speed? To work as a climber/caterpillar reaction, you really need a reburnable trail of objects, and preferably an optional signal output of some kind with every cycle of the climbing reaction. Otherwise your candidate spaceship is just going to end up using up lots of ...

Yup, I can get the icy blue ring to appear around LifeViewer with that trick.

I'm not sure this even counts as a bug any more, though, since you have to work so hard to make it appear, and LifeViewer still seems perfectly functional even after it has appeared. (?)

H-to-G29 (I think)... There's no need to guess about this kind of thing. Just select the pattern you posted in Golly and run the script in the first post, and subtract 31 minus 2 -- it's definitely a G29. x = 47, y = 75, rule = LifeHistory D3.D.D3.D2.3D4.D3.5D3.D4.3D3.3D$2D2.D.D3.D.D3.D2.2D5.D4.2D3...

How to make viewers on other websites (html5?) Meaning, you want to set up LifeViewer to work outside of the context of the forums or LifeWiki? Here are some sample HTML files that do basically that. You can run those pages offline, at the expense of probably using an older version of LifeViewer. (...

I was going to write a brief "rough draft" of an intro page, but I am admittedly not anywhere near an expert and multiple, hyperlinked posts/pages would probably work best. I think this might be a case where it's very useful to be "not anywhere near an expert". It's sometimes hard for the experts t...

Re: Suggestion of READ.me (tricks for beginners)

I think the best way to advertise a helpful tutorial would be to get one of our pages (probably a new page aimed at newcomers, like this but more modern with LifeViewers, encouraging users to get Golly, and with tips on how to start contributing) high up on a search. This seems like a good idea. On...
