Re: Non-Life-Related Dreams
I had a very cool (in my opinion at least) dream last night. It was set in somewhere , I dont know, but the place was pretty nice. Developed tropical island with some somewhat futuristic tech, although I remember it as "present day" (dont question me on this, dreams are weird). There is an indoor zo...

Re: Let's create a language!
I also propose base 6 and base 12, which are also suited for counting on your hands (assuming you have 5 fingers on each hand). I sorta wanna avoid base 10 in fear of the language being too English-y (We already have SVO word order (ok i guess the phonology is a bit different but I dont wanna make i...

Re: Golly 4.0
I installed Python 3.9 64-bit and Golly still couldn't find the library. The exact same situation as 2 years ago. Can someone help me? Does it work once you give it the path to your python39.dll? If you haven't done that: 1. Open up your python shell from somewhere (make sure you open the right ver...

Re: Let's create a language!
I'm going to add an r into the table but I can't figure out which one is used in English. I think it this:/ɹ̠/. I thought we already had /ʃ/. The one english uses, /ɹ/, is actually quite rare across the world's languages. The most common is /r/ according to Phoible. If we do agree on /ʃ/, I propose...

...I'm also going to add a second consonant table just for w. You've probably seen it but I have already added /w/ in there. A few comments on the current phonology. Now, I don't know if this conlang is supposed to look "natural", as in, look like it could be a real language, but if it does, the ph...

Re: Let's create a language!
Pastebin just isn't as neat as google drive, but I suppose it's alright if Hunting can't access it without a VPN. However updating both the google drive spreadsheet and the pastebin version every time can be rather tedious -- so either we only choose one, or have both be out of sync which may cause ...

Re: Let's create a language!
Why are we not going to make a distinction between /ɐ/ and /a/, or /ɛ/ and /e/? The two pairs are very different sounds. If you don't agree with my idea, explain your reasoning, but don't be rude and don't threaten others. Letter A is pronounced /ɐ/ as of now (same for letter E), but BokaBB wants a...

Re: Let's create a language!
My apologies but I couldn't resist from noticing this: English don't have zh anyway, so I don't see why do we need it. -- I purpose repeating a letter to indicate "natural sound", i. e. aa -> /a/, ee -> /e/. But let's worry about that later. ??So what? English doesn't have a bunch of things that man...

This is just an unfortunate limitation of the forums.
You'll need to find a tool to resize your gifs. This site has been working for me.
If you can't get it below the limit... oh well...

Re: Spaceships made up of other spaceships (SMOS)
(how can I find a smos, only with golly and python?) Most of the SMOS here have been found with just those 2 tools. I've posted the instructions here before, but in brief: 1. Set up an initial pattern of 2 spaceships colliding somewhat far apart so they dont collide before 1 cycle of the ship 2. Ru...

Re: Golly 4.0b1
Yes, I meant using an HROT rule with the Larger Than Life algorithm. I do not remember the exact ones now, but one of them was an "N2" neighborhood range 10 rule. I haven't been able to reproduce the crash again, strangely (both in the LTL algorithm with an HROT rule and other algorithms), but I wil...

Which algorithm and rule are you using? Does it happen more often after loading a particular pattern? (Preferably one of Golly's supplied patterns so I can easily load the same one.) How exactly are you switching layers? By selecting a layer at the bottom of the Layer menu? Or by clicking a button ...

Re: Golly 4.0b1
Golly 4.0b1 "randomly" crashes for me. It seems to happen when switching between layers and then quickly doing an operation such as copying or pasting, however I haven't been able to reproduce it 100% reliably. User "bubblegum" has also confirmed this.
