Re: Inverse of "Coagulations" rule (B478/S234678)

A p29 just turned up. Shortest unknown period is now 31.

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 6, rule = B478/S234678

Re: Inverse of "Coagulations" rule (B478/S234678)

Here are new oscillators for all periods from 11 to 28, along with 30, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 49 and 61. The shorstest unknown and longest known periods are now 29 and 61 respectively. x = 285, y = 234, rule = B478/S234678 8b2o14b2o74b2o2b2o2b2o14b2o74b2o2b2o2b2o6b2o2b2o2b2o$8b2o14b2o9bo7bo 56b2o2b...

Re: email updates

Oh yes! Got it. I missed it it because this link doesn't appear at the top level board index and I was looking for something that worked for the whole site. No big deal, I'll try that.

Thanks,
Paul.

Re: Interview with John Conway

Paul: What job? Sorry, dump quip. In the UK (I'm east-pondian), when someone says "I had an interview with X", they normally mean a job interview. I was just wondering how one goes about securing an interview with JHC and one thing led to another. So what did you actually talk about? You mentioned ...

email updates

I'm sorry if this has been requested before, or already supplied, but I can't find any evidence of either. Does this site have, or could it have, a facility whereby a registered user could subscribe to an email list to receive email updates on new posts to the site, either individually on in a regul...

Did you get the job? :)

Re: Golly/Gemini beginner questions.

There have been a number of explanations provided elsewhere, but briefly: Gemini is aptly named because it uses two identical twin replicating bodies at the NW and SE ends of the posted pattern. These each recieve a copy of the instruction tape consisting of 12 lanes of gliders. This forms the diago...

Re: Fun with Oscillators in HPP-Gas

Is this what's meant by a 1/2 gun? I'm not sure that I've grasped the notation. This fits challenge 8 anyway, a random modification of one of ssaamm's guns came up trumps: x = 7, y = 4, rule = HPP .3P.P$T5.Q$pHpI3pHpIpH$.pH3.pH! This is period 12, so it's actually a pseudo-period gun. Best of luck t...

Re: Online Database of Unsuccessful GFIND Searches

To add to the 3c/7 results posted earlier I have since completed friutless gfind searches with o7n3l182uvw and o7n3l196u. That last search took nearly a year to complete, so I won't be banging my head against this particular wall any time soon! For the benefit of folks unfamiliar with gfinds options...

Re: Universal Constructor Based Spaceship

Wow! Congratulations! FWIW I've just confirmed this object to my satisfaction. The method used was: Loaded the pattern into Golly 2.1 and saved it as file1.rle (to avoid RLE formatting complications) Ran it for 33,699,586 generations. Population census (846278) matched the initial count. Saved the g...
