OCA DOTY 2020 Voting

Post by Naszvadi » March 20th, 2021, 6:30 pm

The nomination period has ended. The voting period will end in cca. six weeks at midnight once all regions of the world have entered 1st May 2021. Due to some of the entries having plenty of links, only the first link is provided for each entry in most cases. Links to the rules and the full list of links can be seen at the OCADOTY#2020 and most of them at the nominations thread here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4970
  • #01 Wire-like rule 1e2-a3-cij4kaijrtz5cnrq/2ce3aejnr4aj5y6a/3: 1e2-a3-cij4kaijrtz5cnrq/2ce3aejnr4aj5y6a/3 (A Wire-Like World), a universal Generations wiring rule with complex dynamic circuitry and construction capabilities (by silversmith)
  • #02 B36/S245-alike logreplicator: Replicator emulating the B36/S245 logarithmic replicator (by AforAmpere)
  • #03 Various oscillators and spaceships in HROT rules: Oscillators and spaceships in HROT rules: circular chequerboards fighting for territory, and rocket rules in the cross neighbourhood (by lemon41625, Saka, Chris Rowett and Hunting)
  • #04 Various symbiosis discoveries and constructions: New developments in Symbiosis, including a vast array of oscillators and guns, lightspeed signal circuitry and a unique MSM breeder. (by many)
  • #05 Oblique (421,1)c/867 ship: Spaceship moving at (421,1)c/867 (by AforAmpere)
  • #06 Small natural replicator simulating W110: Replicator that follows the computationally universal 1D rule W110 (by iNoMed)
  • #07 LFoD O(t^(3/2)) growth construction: Constructed pattern in B2/S0 (Live Free or Die) that grows with a complexity of O(t^(3/2)) (by FWKnightship and Aidan F. Pierce)
  • #08 Crystal Chaos HROT rule: R2,C0,S4-7,9-11,B4,NB (Crystal Chaos), a dynamic HROT rule with a hidden crystal structure that allows for fragile explosions (by muzik)
  • #09 Various W110 unit cell constructions: Various W110 generalized unit cells, rakes and (noncompact) stripes in D&N, Morley, Logarithmic replicator rule, B368/S12578, LFoD, Seeds, Life without death, DotLife, a TC 4-state vonNeumann rule, a 14-state OT hexagonal rule with 2×2 CGoL unit cell and a 4-state hexagonal rule directly simulating CGoL (by Naszvadi, FWKnightship, Layz Boi and GUYTU6J)
  • #10 Box-pushing spaceships: Various spaceships including boxes with smaller spaceships pushing them from the inside, right triangles and crosses (by Saka)

To vote for a pattern, simply include a line where that pattern's number is followed by with a number of asterisks from one to three corresponding to how strongly you want to vote for that pattern. (Note that the patterns have been shuffled compared to the nominations thread, as was the standard at PotY.) If you do not want to vote for a pattern, simply do not include a line with its number!

In case some of you are concerned about mixing up the numbers, here is a version optimized for voting. Simply replace the name of each pattern with the number of asterisks that you want to give it (and remove lines corresponding to patterns that you don't want to vote for). The idea had been ripped from POTY 2020 competition.

Hunting's picky... no, not really for leaplife
I think if the discovries in 2021 will be nominated in the next year, i'll probably give three.

I vote according to my understanding of the project. LeapLife is way inside my comfort zone. On the other hand, I barely understand #01.

Exception is Symbiosis, in which I'm simply amazed by the developments in an easy rule.

Most likely because the list is taken from the LifeWiki, rather than the conveniently-placed-and-formatted list in the nomination thread.
Each day is a hidden opportunity, a frozen waterfall that's waiting to be realised, and one that I'll probably be ignoring

The order is different from the order on the LifeWiki.

Can you point out one or two example of me promoting it? I shall change my behaviour accordingly. My signature is just stuff I'm most proud of, analogy to WP user page.

Also, one thing I always wanted to point out is a rule's creator should not own a rule. People who explored it should. Otherwise like what GUYTU6J once said, one could trivially own many rules by making a large list of INT rules, which is ridiculous.

But on the other hand...

It's still really saddening. LeapLife was created on January, and me and various other people spent much effort on it. I apgsearched it on my school's computer, only to get a demerit. I'm in a situation similar to wwei23, but I keep improving LeapLife:

In fact, I don't even have access to computers or other electronic devices, as an attempt to keep me seperate from the outer world. My activities were either done when they're not home, or in a hurry, or pretend to go to the toilet and take the phone (much like JP21), or sneak it among the clothes so I can message when taking a shower (my parents noticed my showers takes an unusually long time, but they couldn't figure out why.) or hide it in a secret place in my room so when they're asleep I go on the forums (at the Chinese class on the next day:哈欠.....) or use the school computer when no one is there. I will probably not write to you anytime soon (I said soon!)
(Note the last parenthesis is Unicode parenthesis due to being in a hurry)

I began making the timeline since December, and only finished it in February, all by myself (perhaps with a little help of waypoints by dvgrn). I wrote the associated article in the same timespan. It was written in a phone's notepad, so I could write it when I was outside without computer.

I did not mean to advertise LeapLife in the Voting thread. I mean, I advertise for a reason. It's hard for me to accept the current vote count...
