The pattern consists of a binary counter that counts downward. Once it reaches the end of the counter, it turns the end into a c/2 wickstretcher head and sends a signal back up, which alters the phase of the counter. The counter eventually reaches the c/2 head, which stops it, and when the counter reaches the new endpoint the cycle repeats. If the length of the counter tape is the right length mod 27, it will advance a second counter by 1 step (the first time, it stops a c/2 wickstretcher). Once that counter shrinks all the way, it sends down a signal, which changes the head of the first counter so it counts down, and when it comes all the way back up the counter collapses into a single cell.
