Glide Life: 23/34578/4

Post by TWLife » October 6th, 2013, 1:29 am

NOTE: The rule has now changed to 23/34578/4 for better productivity.

I'm freaking out here!!! :o its a oblique spaceship that moves 7,1 every 17 gens.

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = 23/345/4
2.2A$AC2A$3A$.A!
there's also an p124 oscillator that occurs quite naturally

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 5, rule = 23/345/4
2.3A$2.ABA$.A2.A$A$.BC!
at first it may seem like its only p31 or 32, but it makes 3 full turns before it repeats itself, as the initial pattern shows up again every 31 gens, but rotated 270 degrees

However, this rule is not very productive, so I'm trying to add more chaos and stuff to make it more interesting but at the same time keep the awesome spaceship and oscillator.

there's also this tub....

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = 23/3458/4

the tub is remarkable as it is impossible to "corrupt" the interior without destroying the growing edge.

Here are two more. A period 23 ship:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 5, rule = 23/3458/4
2.A$.A.2A$A2.2A$.A.2A$2.A!
and another expanding pattern:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 5, rule = 23/3458/4
.2A$A.2A$2A.2A$.2A.A$2.2A!

The growing pattern that Brian posted can be created from a 'barge' shape, with as few as six cells:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = 23/3458/4
.A$A.A$.A.A$2.A!
The individual waveguides can be stabilized with the natural but uncommon c/2 spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 128, y = 71, rule = 23/345/4
12$75.A$74.3A$73.A2C2A$72.ABC2.A$72.ABA3.A$71.3A2.C.CA$71.A5.BCBA$70.
A7.ABA$69.AC.C6.3A$68.ABCB9.A$68.ABA11.A$67.3A10.C.CA$67.A13.BCBA$66.
A15.ABA$65.AC.C14.3A$64.ABCB17.A$64.ABA19.A$63.3A18.C.CA$63.A21.BCBA$
61.2A23.A2BA$59.3A2.C22.A2BA$58.A2BA26.A2BA$57.A2CA28.A2BA$55.2A2.B
30.A2CA$53.3A2.C32.B2.2A$52.A2BA36.C2.3A$51.A2CA40.A2BA$49.2A2.B42.A
2CA$47.3A2.C44.B2.2A$46.A2BA48.C2.3A$45.A2CA52.A2BA$43.2A2.B54.A2CA$
41.3A2.C56.B2.2A$40.A2BA60.C2.3A$39.A2CA64.A2BA$37.2A2.B66.A2CA$35.3A
2.C68.B2.2A$34.A2BA72.C2.3A$33.A2CA76.A2BA$31.2A2.B78.A2CA$31.AB82.B
2.2A$30.AB.AC81.C2.2A$31.AB86.C2A$31.3A84.BACA$117.B.C2A$118.2CA$118.
BA!
And here's a P124 oscillator:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 5, rule = 23/345/4
3A$ABA$A2.A$4.A$2.CB!

sphenocona's p124 is already on the page.
Also, the knightship and the p2 are about as common.
Why not callling it "slopey glider"?

Alright, the name for this rule is temporarily 'glide life', if you have any suggestions, please tell me and I will consider them. Thanks! :D

There has already been work done with this rule and very closely related rules which support the oblique spaceship, and many of the other patterns described above,

See this link: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=861 <-- click
It describes the "9:43 at Knight" rule (237/34578/4).

And more generally, see its predecessor thread at this link: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=767 <--click
It covers the 23/345/4 rule family with various additional B7, B8, S7, and S8s)

Gotta run - sorry I don't have time to post more right now!
