A very interesting rule. Here is the table:

Here are some patterns. First, a 3c/16o spaceship of sorts:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 9, rule = pirep
4.2A$4.2A3$5.3A$5.A2.A2$2A3.A2.A$2A3.3A!
Three eater 1s fit the bill of eating it:

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 20, rule = pirep
4.2A$4.2A$15.2A$15.A$5.3A5.A.A$5.A2.A4.2A2$2A3.A2.A$2A3.3A6$13.2A$13.
A.A$4.2A9.A$5.A9.2A$2.3A$2.A!
Eater 1 is a period 2 oscillator, technically:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = pirep
2A$A.A$2.A$2.2A!
It can cap off the pireps to form a p32 oscillator:

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 18, rule = pirep
2.A$2.3A$5.A10.2A$4.2A10.A$14.A.A$14.2A3$9.2A$9.A.A$11.A$9.A.A$2.2A5.
2A$.A.A$.A10.2A$2A10.A$13.3A$15.A!

Here is a PM I wrote a while back:
Alexey_Nigin wrote:No.

I don't like promising to do something and then not doing it, but shortly after writing those messages in the Close Life Variants thread, I realised that writing this program would be just a waste of time for me. Firstly, I have written two very similar programs before, so I would learn nearly zero new techniques or algorithms. Secondly, Delphi is a long dead programming language, and there is no reason (other than being lazy) to write big programs in it instead of spending this time to learn something better.

Another reason against this program is that it is mainly aimed at non-totalistic rules. They look cool at first glance, but now I think that there are just too many of them. Trying to study them encourages attempting many different things and not really exploring any of them - in other words, making Cellular Automata Theory similar to my list of programming projects.

It would still be nice if this program somehow appeared out of thin air, though, but this is unlikely to happen.

And if you are wondering what I did in the time I intended to use on this program, I actually learned some web coding, made a few games, and will start making full websites soon. I have a web-themed CA project in mind, namely a new spaceship database, but for now I don't know enough to do it.
Frankly, the spaceship database isn't going to happen any time soon, either. This is not just because I am continuing to be lazy, but also because I realised I need to learn a lot more about web programming to build something that large.
There are 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who don't.

This rule just has '4-air' added to the begin and stay, so I called it PlasmaLife. to my surprise, it actually has c/6 diagonal and c/10 diagonal spaceships that occur naturally and often enough that some of them synthesize in the outer areas of large soups. here are the still lifes:

Code: Select all

x = 29, y = 29, rule = B34-air/S234-air
3b2o$2bo2bob2o11bo$3b3ob2o2bo7bobo$6bo4b3o5bobo$3b3ob2o3bo4b4o$2bo2bob

Low period oscillators:

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 12, rule = B34-air/S234-air
9b2o4b3o$9b2o4b3o$4b2o3b3o4bo$o2bo6bobo$o5bo3bobo3bo$o3b2o5bo3b3o$15b
3o2$b2o$o$o$b2o!
The hive oscillator i call a wasp, and the other thing i call a trithlon.

High period oscillator (only one so far ;-;):

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 9, rule = B34-air/S234-air
6bo$5bobo$5bo2bo$6b2o4$2o$2o!
i call it the scutterbug... for some reason.

The gliders:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 10, rule = B34-air/S234-air
2bo$b3o$3bo$3bo3$b3o$o$o$o2bo!
the c/6 is a tadpole and the c/10 is a 'wv'

it has some very life like properties, and some not.

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 10, rule = B3/S23
3b2o$3b2o$2b3o$4bobo$2obobobo$3bo2bo$2bobo2bo$2bo4bo$2bo4bo$2bo!

Judging by the rulestring it's not *terribly* surprising that this rule remains non-explosive; 4a and 4i are definitely the most common 4-neighborhoods in this rule family and 4r can't be too far behind, reducing the added activity from the other added B4/S4 transitions to a manageable level.
That being said the "plumes" of activity have a different feel, resembling the chaotic messes seen in nonstable expanding rules.
The behavior is definitely interesting and I hope more things turn up.

yep. that is, if you like low period oscillators and still lifes:

seems better to stick with life-like rules when you want a non-explosive rule. :mrgreen:

B3/S234y explodes somewhat like DotLife (B3/S0S23), mostly due to the fact that the R-pentomino/century is a 7,20c/68 dirty knightpuffer:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 34, rule = B3/S234y
2o$obo$2bo$b2o28$bo$b2o$2o!
I highly suspect that knightrakes are possible, and possibly more versatile 7,20c/68 technology.

LoM is a failed replicator, I have a feeling that there's an orbit or stabilization with two of them:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3/S234y
2o$obo$obo$b2o!
The two two-glider collisions that produce infinite growth:

Code: Select all

x = 264, y = 7, rule = B3/S234y
bo255b2o$o255bobo2b2o$3o255bo2bobo$261bo$bo$2o$obo!
There's a glider + boat collision that makes a long python:

Code: Select all

x = 41, y = 10, rule = B3/S234y
23bo16bo$22bo15b2o$5bo12bo3b3o14b2o$4bo12bo16bo$bo2b3o10b3o10bo3bobo$o
bo27b2o2b2o$2o27bobo$16b2o$17b2o$16bo!
Pre-pulsar evolves into a pseudo-still life composed of 4 ships:

Code: Select all

x = 23, y = 8, rule = B3/S234y
20bobo$20b2o$16bo4bo$14bobo$15b2o$5o15bo$o3bo14b2o$19bobo!
R-bee synthesis:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 8, rule = B3/S234y
2bo3bo$3bobo$b3ob3o3$3o3b3o$2bo3bo$bo5bo!

I stumbled on B34nt/S23 whilst reviewing the rules which have been posted in this thread. I thought it sufficiently interesting to post here.

Most small still lifes are present in this rule, with the notable exception of the fishhook. However, the boat-bit reaction and eater 2 still function as glider eaters. The standard spaceships all work plus the crab and a few other xWSS flotillae. There's also a small tagalong for the xWSS. There's a fair bit of similarity with CGOL p2 oscillators, along with natural p2, p4, p8 and p10 oscillators which don't work in Life.

Code: Select all

x = 42, y = 8, rule = B34nt/S23

There's a very common p336 quad glider gun with a 4G synthesis (probably doable in 3G)

Code: Select all

Combined with this 2G beehive push reaction the quad gun is responsible for the misclassified zz_REPLICATOR

which can probably be converted into all manner of c/2 constructions. Here's a p48 TL puffer

A small orthogonal spaceship collection, including c/3, 2c/4, c/4, 2c/5, and c/5. Some of these are probably not new to this thread, but they all don't work in CGoL. c/6, 2c/7, and c/7 all look promising, but I didn't find anything.

Is it possible for a true replicator to exist in plife or a variant? (Besides just removing the longboats via rulestring)

I highly disagree.

I am searching through the closest possible life variants: rules 1 transition from life. (I remember there was a thread dedicated specifically for that but for the life of me I can't find it)

b03s23 is pretty boring:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B03/S23
2o$o$2bo!
b1c3s23 is as expected:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B1c3/S23
2o$2bo$o!
and b1e3s23:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B1e3/S23
obo$obo$b2o!
b2c3s23 contains the standard b2c phoenices but not much else:

Code: Select all

x = 20, y = 16, rule = B2c3/S23
9bo2$b3o5bobo$o3bo$o3bo4bobo$b3o13b3o$7bobo9bo$18bo$7bobo2$9bo$4bobo$
11bobobobo$6bobo$13bobo$8bo!
b2e3s23 or xvaLifeg was already discussed in this thread

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 4, rule = B2e3/S23
14bo$14bobo$obobobobobobobobobobobobobobobo$3ob3ob3ob3ob3ob3ob3ob3o!
b2k3s23 is an interesting but explosive rule

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 6, rule = B2k3/S23
o$2bo$o3bo$6bo$8bo$10bo!
b2a3s23 is self-explanatory

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 2, rule = B2a3/S23
2o$2bo!
b2i3s23 is really nice, with a large p20 arising from the hf and an interesting lengthening xwss, unfortunately explosive

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 23, rule = B2i3/S23
5b2o$4b2o$5bo16$3o$o2bo10b3o$o12bo2bo$o13b2o$bobo!
b2n3s23 or 2diagonal, again unfortunately explosive, already discussed, can be tamed by removing s3q

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 20, rule = B2n3/S23
b3o$bobo$bobo6$2o$2o2$4o$o2bo$bo2$3bo$7b2o$5bo2bo$8bob2o$7b2ob2o!

I investigated that in the Guokr days. No luck, only some p2/p4 oscillators.

Moosey found that before (at the beginning of a rulegolfing process).
