Is this a shuttle, a hassler, or just an oscillator?

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 19, rule = B3aeij4aejrw/S23

What is this pattern called? I couldn't find anything on the p30 oscillator wiki category.
Edit: unless it's a new oscillator.
I enjoy self-supporting spaceships

Code: Select all

This goes to the OCA. It can be considered as a shuttle or a hassle I think because the definition isn’t clear. Remember anything that is not rule=B3/S23 should probably go to the OCA.

Technically, an RRO is any oscillator that rotates itself without using reflectors, so they both are. Your example is not considered a loopable RRO, though, since the copies do interact, even if it doesn't affect anything. I have heard patterns of that type referred to as pseudo-RROs.

EDIT by dvgrn: Not sure if this is really a good thread for this question, but it seems pretty good. It got reported for being in the wrong thread, without the reporter being helpful enough to suggest a specific replacement thread number.

It technically didn't belong in a thread about "Life-like cellular automata" because, following the LifeWiki definition the above is an isotropic range-1 Moore-neighborhood rule, but not a Life-like one.

Is there any reflectors based on this reaction?

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 8, rule = B34nq/S234q
o$b2o$2o4$2o$2o!
I also wonder if there’s a rule where the block is a reflector and a splitter.

Rule family where the block is a reflector:

There's also this with a tub/ship.

Code: Select all

# You can save the pattern into this box with Settings/Pattern/Save or Ctrl-S.
x = 13, y = 13, rule = B3-ky4jy5cr/S2-in3-aeky4cnrt5a6ekn

Or the one in Tubular:

It appears to be simulating a range-2 Wolfram rule, Rule 2166637080.
Also, the front half of that is a spaceship in its own right:

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 1, rule = B026/S1

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 9, rule = B3-jqr/S01c2-in3

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 5, rule = B3/S2-i3-y4i

Can a ship/s move at every speed≤c/2(In reduced form)? I'm pretty sure that the answer is no, but I'm wondering If any ship/s actually makes a dent in the infinite space. Individual ships and families of ships with a certain slope make no dent in the infinite space.

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 3, rule = B3-cnqy4e5kr6n7c/S2-i3-ay4einrtyz5cejn6cin78

if you only include on direction, then yes! thanks to rules with various types of adjustable ships and other tech, as long as its an orthogonal spaceship of finite period and of speed that is >c/2o, there is at least one rule to contain a spaceship of that speed.

if you include all possible slopes, then its unknown, at least in the realm of 2 state nonalternating range-1 moore INT rules. though there is a fair amount of evidence suggesting that all speeds less than some value c/n would be possible, though the value for n is unknown
contact me if ya want help in designing any sort of really weird uncommon types of rules that most people don't like/work with, I'd love to help.

The last rule from here has all orthogonal speeds less than c/2 (plus a c/2 ship, which is just the frontend and backend without any signals). There is also a diagonal version (first diagonal rule) at c/3 or less.
For the more general question, this rule achieves all ships of any slope below a certain speed, although its maximum speed in any direction is quite slow, though perhaps this one could be made to go much faster if we could make the signals bounce in the same way.

Of course, Life has every simplified speed <c/2 due to universal construction and the c/2 blinker fuse. If we could make something similar in a rule with a c/3d wickstretcher/puffer, that would be every speed except those on the border, which is (a,a+b)c/(3a+2b).
Any sufficiently advanced software is indistinguishable from malice.

How would I find a rule where a spaceship-object collision is a splitter/reflector? More specifically, is there a rule where this

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 3, rule = B3-n/S1e2-a3-e
4bo$2o2bobo$4bo!
is a splitter of some sort?

You can try LLS.
\sum_{n=1}^\infty H_n/n^2 = \zeta(3)

How much of current CA technology can I redevelop "on a desert island"?

(my previous post)
You can try LLS.
I have attempted to set up LLS before, and failed. I followed every step to a tee a second time, and it still failed. If LLS is the only way to accomplish the question I have posited in my original post, then I will take my requests to the ¨Requests - Non-APGsearch¨ thread.
