Bliptile Life Metacell

I've wanted, for a long time, to make a Life metacell in the simple wire ruleset Bliptile.

This is the basic design but I'm having trouble tiling it. I'll explain how it functions and perhaps someone else can help make it tileable.

And here is the very simple ruleset: In Bliptile, the Von Neumann neighborhood is used. Wire cells (state 1) remain wire cells unless there is exactly one electron head (state 3) is adjacent. Electron heads heads (state 3) become electron tails (state 2) and electron tails become wire.

The metacell functions as follows:

The technology is period 8. Whenever the master clock in the center is properly aligned (there's an indicator) there can be an electron head next to the dotted wires (to the right is a copy with these two inputs highlighted)

The upper input initializes the cell and later tells the cell that it is time to calculate. The lower input takes, in unary, the number of neighboring cells. The two upper outputs are as follows: the one with an arrow is meant to go to a large screen for visibility, and the output above that will output if the next state, when calculated, is Alive. This means that the upper output can be input to all the surrounding cells and back into it to tile them all into a cell. It follows the rule B3/S23.

I think the hard part may be gathering the neighbour count. I've made a lifelike metacell before, and it used crossovers (which were trivial in the rule I used) to gather all the neighbour states into a series of wires. I'm not sure about this, though.

I think there's a design for a crossover in the original bliptile thread. Either way, I'm sure it's possible. And then how do we convert it to unary? How would it send its state to its neighbours? How do we generate a quick signal to feed a display?

Last night I was really tired when I wrote this up, so i'm sure a lot of the English was fragmented and it wasn't explained well.

The upper output will send out an electron if the cell's new state, after calculation, is 1. Sending this to all of the cell's neighbors and consolidating it into a single stream is enough to convert it to unary - the electrons, when fed into the cell, don't need to be together and can be spread out.
The output with an arrow drawn on is designed to go to a display.

Also, that display is much more dense than the ones I normally use, which is cool:

I found a crossover design.

We should also combine all the 8 input signals into a single wire. In doing so, we can eliminate the need for some crossovers by replacing them with OR gates (or XOR gates, they'll never have more than one positive input anyway).

I think we would still need crossovers for the outputs near the corners, but maybe not.

I wanted to update this that I have correctly implemented the guts of a metacell, but the fanout assembly is elusive (namely the diagonals). It must be possible but I always get tangled when I try. The clock in the center is for you to see the period 8 logic at work and that any inputs are copacetic. An electron head placed on the lower left input indicates one live neighbor - neighbors enter the cell in unary (Three electrons for three neighbors, etc) and the upper input is the computation clock indicating that the neighbor count is complete. This one would be connected to a long period clock that was timed to release an output only after all the cells have finished communicating. One of the upper outputs is a unary output for the neighbors - the other is a high period clock for a display.
