This search covers 20 million rules, out of 2^31 in the rulespace. It found 10859 ships, of which all but 56 are record speeds. I estimate that the entire rulespace contains about 1.16M records in total.

I recently did a search for ships that have a waffle-like agar and I'm curious if any of these speeds are new / improved. I turned off the new speeds filter thingy so there's going to be a lot of known speeds, but I know there's at least 2c/1490o in there, which isn't in my copy of Orthogonal ships.sss.txt

I can't officially say anything, but no. For LTL, that would give even more speeds than possible on the range-1 Moore neighborhood.
Right now, we can have infinitely slow ships, but adding LTL would also give infinitely fast ships.

As for the others, I'm pretty certain that multistate rules are outside the scope of 5S. Only 2-state isotropic range-1 moore neighborhood.

For me, I usually take a small portion of the results and check how many spaceships there are new/improved when doing a search. I tend to terminate earlier if the yield is low. Given so many novel results since last update, this test may overestimate the notability of the haul. I'm still waiting for an update in the Github collection.

So I'm coming back to my idea of scraping all of the ships off the catagolue and putting them into 5S. Once I've got the ships from the catagolue, is there a script that will check if they're the best known ship of that speed and prepare them in the right format?

Looking through this thread, so much been happening while I've been inactive, but I have been reading during my absence. Thank you everyone for the great work keeping the project going, and special thanks to LaundryPizza03 for keeping an up to date collection and being able to answer questions about the status of the collection. I'm working on an update to the Github version of the collection, hopefully I'll get that published soon.

It can definitely be automated, at least for the cases where the component ships remain well separated. I've just struggled with the actual process of writing this code, even though I have got a copy of something similar which is written in Javascript to use as a reference. Also I've struggled to decide how to deal with spaceships where there are separate sub-periodic wings - e.g. a c/2 spaceship with a p2 middle which joins two high period wings (such as p18 and p16 for a p144 ship). Kind of the equivalent of trivial oscillator periods in CGoL. I'm currently leaning towards including them, they'll tend to be larger than a small c/2 mechanism which exhibits the full period and so they'll be replaced if such a highP ship is found.

5S_update.py will also extract ships in rle format from a large string of text on the clipboard. You just want to have each ship in a separate rle "paragraph".
The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.

Recently Macbi found a rule with a 20-cell (24,6)c/54, a new speed, based on a moving failedrep. Additionally, this ship can be used as a precursor for other period multiples of (4,1)c/9.
