That is amazing
The movement of that spaceship is very novel.

Using that one spaceship you usually see in exploding life variants:

If I recall correctly, that spaceship had a number of around 160 on the Fano database, indicating it's been known for a while.

An unusual 8c/671 SMOS composed of two 6c/42o's in the same direction. Its evolution also involves two transient copies of the same ship, heading inward, as well as four triplets.

Absurd separation 13c/137:

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 3, rule = B2in3-cekr4ceijqty5ej6-kn7e/S2-ik3-aeky4aiqty5eir6in7e

I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

No, but there is a dedicated OMOS thread somewhere.
Each day is a hidden opportunity, a frozen waterfall that's waiting to be realised, and one that I'll probably be ignoring

By Moosey, a spaceship where one of said ship's phases consists of two of said ship's other phases.

That's quite interesting. I guess we could call it a self-referential SMoS. I wonder what kinds of interactions that allows for.

And welcome to the SMoS hunting club :)

Edit: Ah, I just remembered that someone already coined the term "spaceship made of itself" (SMOI) for this type of pattern, and there are several examples already in this thread.

The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.

Heh, I just got really lucky when trying to weld two rules together for a mashup rule (to reduce the total number of states needed). Try removing S6e, and you'll see that it was supposed to be a c/6 orthogonal spaceship.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3-ek4cjtwyz5-akn6ci7e/S2-ck3eknr4-centz5ejq6-e

Hey, the SMOS works here if you add that cell manually!

I think a lot of things like this can be found in the 5s collection, as I mentioned somewhere else before.(how can I find a smos, only with golly and python?)

Most of the SMOS here have been found with just those 2 tools.
I've posted the instructions here before, but in brief:
1. Set up an initial pattern of 2 spaceships colliding somewhat far apart so they dont collide before 1 cycle of the ship
2. Run searchRule2-matchPatt.py from 5S
3. Enter the period of the ship for the generations to match
4. wait

Well, in my case, I didn't even need that script. I just mutated the wrong transition by mistake, and then it started SMOSing on me.
