Platoon (B2cek3i/S12-ak)

Post by KittyTac » December 21st, 2017, 10:33 am

A somewhat distant relative of Just Friends. This is a pretty interesting rule that has replicators spewing gliders everywhere. The "Spewing gliders everywhere" part is a common attribute of its derivatives. It features little platoons of gliders ramming each other, and both the gliders and replicators can turn via reactions. It also features a rare-but-naturally-occurring puffer. Can anyone with more free time explore it more thoroughly? Best viewed on 1500 by 1500 or a bit larger torus, to limit its explosivity.

P.S Needs quite a bit of cells to get it started.

Also, the blinker/tub-like object can function as a 90 degrees glider reflector.

I guess I can do the analysis myself. There seem to be "Biomes" where varying patterns thrive. I counted three (or four).
  • Breeding Grounds: Lots of replicators, no or very few still lives and oscillators, lots of gliders, but the gliders can't collide with a replicator head and disrupt it, leading to more replicators forming here... A feedback loop.

    Wasteland: Lots of still lives and oscillators, some disorganized gliders that can't clean it out due to a lack of replicators in the surrounding area and instead form new still lives and oscillators... A feedback loop.

    Warzone: Very few or no still lives and oscillators, no replicators, and lots of organized gliders colliding. Replicators and still lives can't survive here due to gliders disrupting them... A feedback loop, yet again.

    Vacuum: Nothing. No feedback loop here.
More in-depth analysis pending.

Smallest chaos seed I can find:

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 2, rule = B2cek3i/S12-ak
bo15bo$obo14bo!
I find the common ruler-sequence-generating replicator fascinating.

Breeding grounds turn into wastelands as they are disrupted by gliders. Wastelands turn into warzones as they're cleaned up by gliders, which may reveal breeding grounds again. Warzones turn into vacuum as breeding grounds near them get turned into wastelands. Vacuum is eventually reclaimed by breeding grounds. It's the circle of life.

A tagalong for the basic glider, that sparks with blocks, which are sparks in this rule. No other ships are known. And I lost the puffer, can someone find it again?

Code: Select all

#CXRLE Pos=100,150
x = 10, y = 4, rule = B2cek3i/S12-ak

I named this rule "Platoon", due to the distinct formations of gliders.

Is a replicator shuttle possible? Also, I wonder if this is universal.

The "clean" rake isn't actually clean, it leaves a still life behind :P A single strategically-placed glider would remedy that though.

The clean rake would be completely clean if it was displayed in the smallest repeating phase instead of just a display of where the interacting engines are.
Once the pattern becomes periodic, it is clean, and that's what matters.

What is the overall ultimate fate of a 50% 1500x1500 torus random soup? Being overtaken by anything but Breeding Grounds or Vacuum isn't an option, as those biomes need other biomes to survive. Dies out? Mixed? Oscillates?

I started apgsearching this.

EDIT: Can't because no bounded grids.

Usually, when a glider hits the "plume" of a replicator, the replicator loses the ability to replicate and dies within a few dozens of generations, while still maintaining its overall shape.
