These have been known for a while, and we don't really like them because they're impossible to clean up after.

Messing around with rules, I found this sparky spaceship that can be made into a puffer:

Code: Select all

x = 20, y = 19, rule = B35-a8/S234t
$2bob2o$2b3o$3bo10$3bo$2b3o$2bob2o!

That is fascinating. Somewhere in there is some kind of strange failed replicator and out of the mess emerges a knight puffer.

Here's the smallest quadratic growth I could find with just two copies. This is one of those rules where this kind of thing is embarrassingly common.

The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.

A familiar 12 comes from the r-pentomino in 186 ticks. Since 8 ticks into the evolution you can find the 1st tick evolution of the wing, the wing itself is also a predecessor:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3/S2-i34y5r7e

Possibly, there's a lot of potential in this rule. However, there's so many rules with potential it's difficult to judge which to post new threads for.

I saw a pattern here like this

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 6, rule = B3/S23
2b2obobo$2bo5bo$3b2o3bo$3o2b4o$o2bo$b2o!
I successfully made an growing wick based on the pattern above

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 12, rule = B3-e/S23:T0,12
$2obobo$o5bo$b2o3bo$o2b4o$2o2$2o$o2b4o$b2o3bo$o5bo$2obobo!
Also

Code: Select all

x = 20, y = 12, rule = B3-e/S23:T0,12
$2obo15bo$o$b2o16bo$o2b16o$2o2$2o$o2b16o$b2o16bo$o$2obo15bo!

This should be used to make a spacefiller, since a two-headed spaceship might be trickier. Just synthesise a still life, hit it with a glider to turn it into a semi-emulator, and done.

A c/2 diagonal ship in B3/S2V2 (range 2 von Neumann neighborhood):

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B3/S2V2

The only decision I made was made
of flowers, to jump universes to one of springtime in
a land of former winter, where no invisible walls stood,
or could stand for more than a few hours at most...
