Looking for a stable B34x7/S23, I found this madness

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B34j7/S23
2bo$b2o$2o$b2o!
Creator of multiple rules that may or may not be what you'd expect

Poking around in non-totalistic rules I found B34/S2-a3. Some variants also seem of interest (namely B34/S2-a36i and variants that make it more volatile but still nonexplosive).

Infinite growth occurs with a rare but naturally-occurring puffer. By far the most common oscillator is the T-tetromino which is period 6. There are two orthogonal c/2 ships that seem to occur naturally with approximately equal frequency.

and this pattern exhibits extremely chaotic infinite growth, which perhaps could be exploited to make quadratic growth as it sprouts the previously-mentioned puffer.

I nominate to call this rule Hyde after Jekyll and Hyde, because chaotic explosiveness appears readily from small, symmetrical patterns and yet has never evolved from a random soup.

B34-n/S2-a3 is a nearby rule of interest. Many of the same ships as in B34/S2-a3 work normally but there is a naturally occurring diagonal ship (a variant of the C-ship with a single cell added) and a naturally occurring, large, sparky p28.

I've been building up a strange pattern collection for a very long time, around 6 months, here are my findings (sans duplicates and stuff that isn't that interesting):

--

A puffer which creates and destroys another puffer:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 7, rule = B3/S23-acn4acn
b2o$obo$3bo$o2bo$2bo$b2o$o!
46c/710o puffer that resembles an inchworm:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 3, rule = B3-cq/S23-c5i8
o4b2o$2o4bo$6bo!
A p23 oscillator that hassles a 3c/7o puffer:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 11, rule = B2e3-a/S2456
b4o6$b4o$bo2bo$6o$2o2b2o$bo2bo!
A rake pulling a block 40 cells orthogonally in 144 generations (40c/144o backend, c/2o frontend):

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 8, rule = B2ce3ai/S235
4b2o$6bo$4b2o2$3b4o$3bo3bo$2o3b2o$o!
A lightspeed puffer leaving a strange sequence:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 7, rule = B2-ik5/S4568
6bo$bo3bobo$o4bobo$6bo$5bo$4bo$3bo!
A 7183-generation methuselah both containing and based on a breeder:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 23, rule = B3-ej/S234i
3o$obo$2b2o18$2b2o$obo$3o!
10c/57o ship with extremely big frontspark:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 5, rule = B3-nr/S2-n3-a4aq
2o$bo$2bo$bo$2o!
A breeder that leaves back a certain type of ruler sequence(?), with a replicator inside. Like a sierpinkski ship-firing replicator, but with puffers instead:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 4, rule = B3/S23-ai4any
2o$bo$bo$2o!
A queen-bee esque oscillator in another rule. Removing the stabilizing blinker makes the bee output another blinker, but in the incorrect position:

Code: Select all

x = 25, y = 5, rule = B2cei34i5/S2
14b3o$o23bo$o14b3o6bo$o23bo$14b3o!
A checkerboard spacefiller:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 2, rule = B2456/S0
2o$2o!
Diagonal sierpinski producer with tubs (This should replace the currect Sierpinski-bulder.rle, it's smaller and easier to see the output):

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3-jq/S234iy
2o$b2o$bo!
Non-stabilized replicator that puffs itself:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 2, rule = B3/S23-jnr4i5-y6c
3o$bo!
A pattern that produces 3 entire quadratic growths:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 4, rule = B2ace5/S456
2o$2o$2o$o!
Quadratic(?????) century (i don't even know.):

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3-cekq4c/S02-c34cei
o$2o$b2o$bo!
A very high period failed c/2o rake that turns into a spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 27, rule = B34-iqr7c/S23-a4i
12b2o2bo$11bo5bo$15bobo$13b5o10$o$o$o5$13bobobo$13b2o4bo$12bo7bo$18bob
o$12b9o$11bo$11bo!
17-barreled 9c/50d rake:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 22, rule = B34-iqr7c/S23-a4i
12b2o$11bobo$12b2o17$b2o$obo$b2o!
p86 gun that 'self-synthesizes':

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3/S1e2-a3-enr4in
obo$obo$obo!
Two 8c/32o rakes hassling an 8c/32o ship by turning it:

Code: Select all

x = 72, y = 38, rule = B3-qr4w5i6-c/S23i45
obo$2obo$2obo$obo6$26b3o5$bo$2o$2o$bo46bo$47b2o$47b2o$48bo21bo$70b2o$
70b2o$70bo5$7b3o6$69bobo$68bob2o$68bob2o$69bobo!
An extremely sparky 30c/132d spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 12, rule = B35/S234i
11bo$11bo$9b3o7$2bo$2bo$3o!
16160 gen, 4-cell methuselah (Canonical form found by A for Awesome):

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 4, rule = B3-nr/S02-n35678
obo2$bo$5bo!
A pretty, persian rug esque, diamond growth:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B2ace5/S4568
b2o$4o$4o$b2o!
Another pretty, persian rug esque ,diamond growth:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 6, rule = B2-ik5/S4568
2b2o$bo2bo$ob2obo$ob2obo$bo2bo$2b2o!
A rule in which growth is elastic:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 3, rule = B2-a5678/S125678
obo$bo$3bo!
A rule that creates GIGANTIC, maze-like oscillators:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 3, rule = B3-j/S0234-r
2o$bo2bo$bo!
A rule that creates indestructable 'paths':

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 3, rule = B1e/S2345678
o$bo$bo!
A small tubstretcher:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 5, rule = B3-j/S234akw
o$bo$o2bo$3bo$b3o!
A very odd failed replicator:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 2, rule = B3-ckq/S2-c34ci5e
3o$obo!
A rule that creates indestructable ponds inside its spacefilling growth (first appears at gen 80):

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 3, rule = B1e/S2
o$bo$bo!
What would be a c/141o puffer, although two renegade dots stop it:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 7, rule = B3-ckq/S02-c3-en4-ajw
2o$o$2o2$2o$o$2o!
A spacefiller that fills 3 oblique directions:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3/S02-c3-en4i678
bo$2bo$2bo$3o!
A replicator that creates 'strings', huge spark/waves that travel at lightspeed:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3/S235e6c
2bo$obo$2bo!
A 3-cell breeder, the smallest possible:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 3, rule = B2-k/S0
2o2$bo!
Two replicators interact to produce a glider at 3(-3+2^[n+1]), for positive integer n:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 6, rule = B2-ik3c/S2-k3i4
7bo$2o4bo3$b2o3bo$7bo!
Last but not least, a (hopefully) aperiodic pattern that stretches a dot:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B2-ik3c/S2-k3i4
obo$3bo$3bo$2bo!
-

I hope some of these patterns will eventually reach the 'Non-totalistic' section of Golly. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I really don't think you can consider something a rake if it leaves solid debris.l.
