This is a 9 cell methuselah of an acorn interacting with a domino. It has a large bounding box but in terms of # of cells it's small for its lifespan.
Code: Select all
x = 10, y = 4, rule = B36/S125

And another that is a 5 cell methuselah interacting with two dominoes, lasting 2293 generations.
Code: Select all
x = 9, 13, rule = B36/S125

The wiki indicates that a 2x2 universe that consists entirely of 2x2 blocks is permanently made up of 2x2 blocks. So, it seems like blocks are unit cells of period 2 in 2x2. If so, what rule do they simulate?
There is life on Mars. We put it there with notcompletelysterilized rovers.
And, for that matter, the Moon, Jupiter, Titan, and 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.

The answer is
on the wiki as well. (Eppstein answers the same question
here, and also does the same for various other rules that share this property with B36/S125.)
Note that the emulated automaton does not use the Moore neighborhood so it's not simply "Bx/Sy" for some given x and y.

Unrelated: are there any currentlyaccessible pattern collections for this rule that aren't already posted in this thread? Eppstein's glider database has been down for ages, and although there are supposedly more spaceships in this rule than the ones listed there, I have no idea where to find them (or practically anything else known in this rule for that matter, again apart from what's been posted on this thread).
