Follow the rules from last year.

  • AforAmpere's tiny Orthogonoid in B2ein3cijn4cnrwy5cnq6e/S1c2-ai3acny4anqy5c6ek8: viewtopic.php?p=75164#p75164
  • Goldtiger997's pseudo-Orthogonoid in Snowflakes: viewtopic.php?p=74697#p74697
  • Lots of massive RROs posted by 2718281828 and AforAmpere starting with this post: viewtopic.php?p=79657#p79657
  • Additions to the 5s project, which now contains over 226,000 spaceships; I don't remember how many there were at the beginning of the year but the collection is several times larger than it was. Some highlights, shown in this post, include:
    • Shallowest slope: (176,1)c/440
    • Highest period: 108c/37886 diagonal
    • Closest-to-diagonal slope: (98,97)c/4312
(I'm pretty sure all three of those are from 2019, but don't quote me on that)

I'd like to nominate these patterns, especially the 1st and the 3rd.

Recent candidate non-totalistic patterns:

Code: Select all

#N Triangular R-pentomino replicator
#O Original B-heptomino form by "dani", June 28th, 2019;
#O current simplified variant by "GUYTU6J"
#C This is a two-dimensional quadratic replicator that replicates in a new way.
#C Let current generation be gen 0. The first child copy comes into being at gen
#C 42, centered at (3,8), and rotated 180 degrees; the second one occur at gen 46,
#C centered at (6,19), rotated 90 degrees clockwise. They continue to replicate, forming
#C larger and larger arrays of child copies in the shape of isosceles right triangles.

#N Ruler-ish replicator
#O Original form by "toroidalet", June 28th, 2019;
#O current simplified (6 cells and many birth/survival
#O conditions removed) variant by "GUYTU6J"
#C This is a diagonal linear replicator that is also a linear wavestretcher
#C in the perpendicular direction. Its sequential wave lengths demostrate
#C the ruler sequence (OEIS A001511), hence the name.

#N SMOS (spaceship made of spaceships) predecessor
#O "Sarp", June 27th, 2019
#C A 2c/4 spaceship keeps chasing and colliding with a c/3 spaceship,
#C and subsequent chaos just happens to generate the original two ships,
#C resulting a really cool 218c/1476 diagonal glide-symmetric spaceship.

EDIT2 on July 13th: Modified descriptions according to here
In addition, some self-promoting:

I'm astonished by the tubs this quadratic replicator produces (and also the history envelope). Does this fractal appear elsewhere?

Code: Select all

Even better 2-dimensional replicator firing gliders and 10c/20s:

Self-promoting, only one usual "discovery" - Rule-110 emulation via Unit cells in classic Codd's cellular automaton VN rule:

Also self-promoting, but I nominate what I think has been the most interesting OCA thing I've worked on this year, the pair-interaction ships of Omosso (see the linked forum post to the current end of the thread), a very large class of unique ships with very high periods.

EDIT: Oh, I remembered something else: I also nominate the entire rule ZombieLife with its weird, enormous natural spaceships.

Hopefully there's still a bit of time for nominations to OCA DOTY 2019 - there were plenty of great discoveries last year but not much activity on this thread.

I have to mention the first orthogonoid of the year - by 2718281828 in Dominoplex.
[*]Additions to the 5s project, which now contains over 226,000 spaceships; I don't remember how many there were at the beginning of the year but the collection is several times larger than it was.
I've pretty much settled on including the latest large update, so there are now over 550,000 spaceships in the collection. I'm not sure what the size of the collection at the beginning of 2019 was either, but I'm fairly sure it was under 100,000.
Some highlights, shown in this post, include:
  • Shallowest slope: (176,1)c/440
  • Highest period: 108c/37886 diagonal
  • Closest-to-diagonal slope: (98,97)c/4312
(I'm pretty sure all three of those are from 2019, but don't quote me on that)
[/list]
Yes, those are from the update in that post.

I would also like to nominate Hactar's 2x2 p2 Metacell Rule.
The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.

Smaller replicators and computers in Devore

Circuitry in B2a/S which probably makes it universal (self-promotion).

The slowest 1-cell 3-state ship, with a period of basically 2^6911

GUYTU6J posted lots of cool ships in the 5S thread, but they may or may not count (being part of the 5S project).
Any sufficiently advanced software is indistinguishable from malice.

I second @Naszvadi's question, but also want to see if there's still a chance to sneak in these (mostly) non-explosive B1e rules from June into the nominations.

Nomination has officialy ended. The voting thread can be found here.
