1. Yes

2. dr is probably the best program for that, but it'll take a little effort to modify it for INT rules — a version for LeapLife specifically might be a bit easier, but my schedule's not consistent enough for me to be confident in saying I have time to do either one. osrc is okay up to p8 or so, but the search gets slower and slower as the period increases, a limitation that dr's radically different search structure doesn't have. I may try a few more higher-period searches if I have the time, but no guarantees.

I'm not that hopeful. Notice that the removal of a single TL results in a rapid cascade of stabilization in both directions, so you'd need to stabilize both ends with gliders

Unless you find like G-splitting and G-reflecting reactions coming off the side of that wick, I highly doubt you could make an SS (but that would be an AWESOME ship)

I'm afraid you won't get too much luck with me in that respect — I'm testing out a non-totalistic modification of gfind right now, but qfind's generally the better search program for high periods and low widths, where a c/7 ship would be more likely to be found. Since qfind is a parallelized search and my system has limited CPU resources to devote, you'd be better served by asking someone else to do that particular search. (I'm also going home for spring break in a couple days, so I'm mostly holding off on the long searches for now anyway and picking off things where new discoveries can be found quickly.)

From this list of unsynthesized still lifes, integral with hook looked like it had plenty of soups.

Had to look through 25 soups or so before a reasonable synthesis showed up:

Has anyone else found that 16x16 soups seem to be a lot less likely to yield workable syntheses in LeapLife than they are in regular Life? Maybe I'm just not recognizing known constructible LeapLife patterns, the way I can recognize pi and R and B and LOM and Herschel signatures at a glance in B3/S23.

On the other hand, it seems like LeapLife soups have less of a tendency to break up into small isolated active regions, and more of a tendency to stick together in one big mess. So the first twenty LeapLife integral-with-hook soups in C1 pretty much all had the still life congeal directly out of a big active region, with no previous generation made out of small separate pieces that there'd be some hope of finding (for example) 3G recipes for.

That kind of attitude is the only reason Conway's Life has orders of magnitude more discoveries than any other rule. Somewhere around 1971 John Conway basically tried to say that B3/S23 was dead -- but then a bunch of unreasonable people refused to believe him.

LeapLife today is about where B3/S23 was in 1971... well, maybe not quite that far along. By 1971 there were more people doing fairly good systematic searches in B3/S23 than LeapLife has seen so far.

Ha! But what exactly did they do? Why can't we apply them to LeapLife?
