10 cell pattern that lasted more than 12000 generations

Post by BokaBB » April 7th, 2020, 12:10 pm

Yes,this is possible!It happened in my Pi life rule(B34c/S234y8). This rule is EXTREMLY long lasting,but still not exploding and stable
. Its name comes from fact that Pi - heptomino is a failed puffer,but it can be stabilized into many spaceships, puffers and rakes. Pi is also a number that is fascinating the humanity for centuries.
However,the pattern was not discovered by me but by my friend Hunting,the author of now trendy LeapLife.
You can see the pattern in a thread on the forum.

Does it matter because I have done this?

Uh, you made a thread about this!

I think there are other non-totalistic rules with such behaviour, I saw one soup which produces millons of objects, but eventually stabilizes.

Also in CGoL it should be possible as well, this rabbit relative have 10 cell and lasts over 17000 generations:

Code: Select all

.O
OO.O
....OO
O..O
O
O
... But that's not as tightly packed as my pattern. FYI, my script creates only 3x4 soups, and aims for the largest final population, instead of lifespan, because population is easier to detect XD.

This 3-cell pattern from here lasts over 3 billion generations:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B2-a3-any5aein6ikn7/S2ce3any4acnyz5-ce6-k7e8
o$bo$2bo!
This 14-cell pattern (generation 6 has 10) from here lasts an unimaginably long amount of time (I'm pretty sure over 2^2^2^50 generations), but it's not really a "normal" methuselah and a little unsatisfying:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 9, rule = B2ei3cikqr4aetz5cr6i/S1e2k3y
4b5o2$6bo2$o5bo$o$obobo$o$o!
Any sufficiently advanced software is indistinguishable from malice.

How about turning this thread into a OCA 10-cell methuselah thread?

So far, we've found at least three different methuselahs in StateInvestigator.
