GluonGuns

Post by Yoel » October 1st, 2020, 2:58 am

Another 3-color rule with speed of light ships (gluons), which has an extremely common natural p11 gun made of just 3 cells and natural oscillators of various periods that happen to be failed guns or guns with eaters. Most patterns die with still lifes, gluons and guns, quadratic growth is relatively rare, so the rule is (meta)stable. T2b-0n2n111a4n in my cyclical rule notation.

1. A cell is born, if surrounded by 2 cells of the same color. The newborn cell takes the next color in the cycle: two red cells give birth to a green cell, 2 green to blue, 2 blue to red.

2. A cell survives, if it stands alone, surrounded by 2 cells of any color, 3 cells of all 3 different colors or 4 cells of any color.

Basic natural p11 gun:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = GluonGuns
$.BC$2.C!
P9:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 13, rule = GluonGuns
2$.C4.C$CB.2A.BC$3.2C$.AC2.CA$.AC2.CA$3.2C$CB.2A.BC$.C4.C!
P10:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 10, rule = GluonGuns
$2.B$.2C5$.2C$.B!
An unusual puffer/rake:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 13, rule = GluonGuns
2.B$.2C10$.2C$.B!

Re: GluonGuns

This rule is extremely rich in still lifes and oscillators (mostly based on ubiquitous reactions that produce natural guns). All periods from 2 to 24, except 19, non-trivial 21 and 23, have been found by Apgsearch. Oscillators and guns for all periods >=17 (edited) can be constructed by stretching a universal reflector/splitter loop.

(See below my edit, showing much better optimal constructions)

My original reflector guns:

An unusual puffer/rake:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 13, rule = GluonGuns
2.B$.2C10$.2C$.B!
That's not a puffer nor a rake, but an SS linear growth like blockstacker or bricklayer. nice!

A semi-natural gun-generating breeder (found by Apgsearch, I just made it smaller and symmetrical):

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 36, rule = GluonGuns
5$.A$2.A$.CA2$C$C7$C$C2$.CA$2.A$.A!
