I'm surprised that there isn't a topic for this. I did some manual searching in Quadlife and Colorised Seeds and found these:

P4605744 gun (I think; I measured its period with an eater anchor at both ends)

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 18, rule = ColorisedSeeds

Unfortunately, this reaction can't be used yet because there is no known way of synthezising a 4-color glider.

Challenges:
4-color glider synthesis
Other symbiotic elementary spaceship syntheses. This is hard because the leading edge, including the diagonally connected cell, of the spaceship has to have at least three colors.
Synthesizing custom multi-colored still lifes. This is hard because 1 color often dominates leaving no cells of the other color.
Find other colorised rules. Preferably colors should all have equal relations to each other, i.e., colors should behave according to whether the colors are different or not, not according to what the colors are.
Proposed terminology:
Color patch: A group of mutually interacting cells of the same color.

Dying color patch: A color patch which takes part in a reaction but doesn't have any cells of its own color that get born form it at the end. A color might still be at the end of a reaction if there's another color patch of the same color or if it gets reborn through 3 different colors, this does not change the status of the color patch.

Inductive color patch: A color patch that persists until the end of a reaction but doesn't have cells of its own color in the desired output object(s).

Symbiotic: A pattern that has at least two colors and cannot function with all cells from any individual color patch being removed.
Example: Symbiotic glider
Not an example: Bi-block with blocks of two colors with each block having a single color.

Glider chromaticity: The cell color(s) of a glider, as opposed to color in the traditional sense.

On a side note, I'm new to the forums so I'd like to ask something: When I click "preview" before submitting a reply, it shows my patterns without having to click "show in viewer". Is this how you see it or just me?

Welcome to the forums!

If you use the [ viewer ] tags then it shows the pattern inline. Your current post has this so we see the patterns inline in the post.

Alternatively (and recommended) instead of using the [ viewer ] tags, use the [ code ] tags in which case you'll see a code box with the "Show in Viewer" link as below:

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 18, rule = ColorisedSeeds

To make a four-color glider in QuadLife, fire a two-color glider at a different-colored toad as a one-time reflector.

Yes, I do. The symbiotic HWSS gun I made uses it. There's another gun that can do it too. Though if by "synthesis" you mean glider synthesis, then no.

I have a vague memory seeing that 4-color glider toad synthesis. Where did you find it? This means we can now make a symbiotic LWSS gun using the Fast Forward Force Field synthesis that I posted above. I'll try to get get started on it now. Also, thank you very much for reviving this thread!

Yes, I do. The symbiotic HWSS gun I made uses it. There's another gun that can do it too. Though if by "synthesis" you mean glider synthesis, then no.

Your example is not a synthesis, though it might be possible to extract a synthesis from your example. I'll try later.

In connection with this topic, I was wondering if anyone could possibly reply to the below questions of mine, please:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4807
I would like to know especially by all means whether colorized CA also act as UTM.
Cf.:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4459&p=107101#p107101
(Note: I'm a total lay-person concerning computing.)
Thank you so much in advance for your kind co-operation!

Well Quadlife is a superset of CGoL, so it is Turing-complete, though I don't know of any computing mechanism that actively uses color.

Thanks a million! How about colorized PCA? Could there be any such thing that is also Turing-complete?
Or are all Turing-complete CAs equivalent or compatible with each other?

God has given me the answer to the above question:
The UTM-ness of all CAs can be proven as follows:
Let "P = PCA-ness." and "C = colorized-CA-ness." .
Then the requirements for computation-principles denies the "dialectical/dialetheist" logical contradiction of both P-UTM-ness negating C-UTM-ness and C-UTM-ness negating P-UTM-ness ( = namely, their simultaneous co-existence and co-non-existence, or, surviving together after cutting each other's throat), which means that P-UTM-ness = C-UTM-ness.
That's because the whole set of CAs is cross-classified into these four sub-sets:

nonC&nonP, C&nonP,
nonC&P, C&P

where nonC&nonP is included in nonC&P as the special case with the probabilities restricted to either 0 or 1, and the UTM-ness of C&nonP and nonC&P has already been proved, and the remaining issue was whether or not C&P is also UTM, which has been solved affirmatively/positively just now/above.

ColorfulGalaxy found an isotropic non-totalistic Colourised Life variant where all live states are "created equal" and parent cells of three different colors don't generate a fourth color.

I'm surprised that there isn't a topic for this. [...]
[...]
Challenges: [...]
Find other colorised rules. Preferably colors should all have equal relations to each other, i.e., colors should behave according to whether the colors are different or not, not according to what the colors are.
[...]
One interesting question, is there a colourised variant of Conway's Life with all of the following properties?
  1. There are two colours (two "alive" cellstates, three cellstates in total).
  2. The ruleset is completely symmetric with respect to the exchange of the colours.
  3. The ruleset is isotropic (i.e. symmetric with respect to rotations and reflections).
  4. "Monochromatic" gliders exist.
  5. There is a synthesis of a state-2 glider by colliding two or more state-1 gliders. (This property would allow to construct glider-constructible objects of different colours, starting from a "monochromatic" initial pattern.)
Another question, is there a three-state CA where properties 1 through 4 from the above hold, with an additional property that small "monochromatic" initial seeds usually remain "monochromatic" as they evolve, but sometimes can spontaneously change to the other colour (again becoming a "monochromatic" evolving pattern for a while)?
(It is not too hard to engineer such CA with more than two "alive" colours, where e.g. 1 beats 2 beats 3 beats 1. But I don't know good examples with just two colours.)

My silence does not imply agreement, nor indifference. If I disagreed with something in the past, then please do not construe my silence as something that could change that.
