You can see the initial extension in the variable "body". Note that it is backwards. The main part is the long line body.insert(...), which checks if the cell in the middle will be the same as the one 5 cells to the right{a}. You can compare the numbers with the template above (four on, four off). Then, it adds the next cell to make it correct, and removes the one at the end.
Using only that array as a target, making it a while loop and hiding the all the g.setcell functions, you get that there is a distance of about 36 million cells between repeats of this sequence. If you change the target to that sequence advanced 1 generation (i.e. [1,0,1,0,1,1,1,0,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0], or possibly a shifted version of this), it never reaches that sequence, but if you change it to the pattern + 3 generations, it is reached after 8 million replicators. 8=36 * 2/9, so the minimal cycle is about 4 million replicators long, with a shift of 3/2 mod 27 = 15.
Because the smallest phase difference between copies of the backend sequence is 3, which is a factor of 27, I checked for 3 different phases of NimbleRogue's partial. You don't actually have to use the very front (and you shouldn't, because the frontend doesn't behave as regularly); I just read out 27 replicators from somewhere near the front in generations 0, 1 and 2; if the frontend points left, then they go into the array in that order rather than in reverse. The sequence from generation 1 had a match at 26 million; I thought this was 2.6 million and tried to turn this into a Golly pattern and wasted a lot of time. To make the smallest ship with this frontend and backend, we want to find one less than 4 million replicators from the start.
Since the shortest distance between backend patterns is 4 million replicators and 15 generations, one in generation 1+3*15=1+45=19 mod 27 generations will be 26+3*12=38 million = 2 million mod 36 million (remember that 36 million distance between copies in the same phase). The sequence in target2 is from generation 19 of the partial:

It is possible that with a different front or back end, there may be a shorter one. There are 4 of each, so we should expect the shortest ship to be on the order of 2*4045445/4*4~=505000 cells long, with a population of around 1.1 million.
In general, the population of one of these spaceships should increase exponentially with the period.



This worm (from here) seems to grow infinitely. I think I ran it for 100 million generations, but I'm not sure:

{a}: It checks what the replicators in the current strip produce in that cell, and whether the next replicator is needed to make that the same as the one 5 cells to the right (body[15]). 15 comes from (27-2-(-5))/2, where the 2 is a constant. The essential idea there is because there are 2 cells between each replicator, increasing the index by 1 decreases the displacement by 2.
Any sufficiently advanced software is indistinguishable from malice.

It definitely resembles the behavior of Mealworms frontends - 5y/6c formations at the front give it that look. Perhaps similar rulespaces to mealworms, such as B2c3aj4a6ack7/S1e2-an3ejnr4i6k7e, could be considered as Mealworm-esque or Mealworm-adjacent rulespaces. Maybe more rules that contain pseudo-mealworm spaceships could be found, other than the previously mentioned ones. Maybe the Rules With Small Adjustable Spaceships thread has a few... I'll check.

I don't think so. The key difference is that in that rule each end can only move in one direction. Of course, in a certain moving reference frame it looks like an asymmetric mealworm.

This thread has more of the asymmetric spaceships, as well as a proof that there is one for every speed slower than c/3 with even period+displacement.
Unfortunately, the proof doesn't work for these other rules, because it requires that the front of the spaceship can interact with the back of the spaceship in the same way as the pulling reaction.
Any sufficiently advanced software is indistinguishable from malice.
