B35/S23

The addition of B5 to the original Game of life still produces a complicated rule. Ironically, it's more stable. Here is a pattern collection:

Code: Select all

x = 33, y = 81, rule = B35/S23
29b2o$28bo2bo$27bo4bo$27bo4bo$28bo2bo$29b2o19$obo14bobobobo$3o14bo5bo$

$12b2o! This does not include the patterns that also work in the original Game of Life. I Like My Heisenburps! (and others) LumpsOfMuck Posts: 60 Joined: October 11th, 2011, 5:58 pm Re: B35/S23 I looked into this rule a bit more and I found that both the pi heptomino and r pentomino die off very rapidly and completely in this rule. THe lumps of muck reaction lasts awhile but it too dies off completely. I bet that's why this rule is so stable. Nice find on the spaceships btw Extrementhusiast Posts: 1817 Joined: June 16th, 2009, 11:24 pm Location: USA Re: B35/S23 Oh, it's publicly available on David Bell's website for ALL Life-like cellular automata. Re: B35/S23

One of your P3s can perturb a small object:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 12, rule = B35/S23
2bobo$bo3bo$o3bo$b2o2$3bo$3bo2b3o$2b2ob2o2$3bob2o$4b2o$3b3o! This object can also be hassled normally in regular Life, except with a caterer or jam. Also, I have not been able to find an eater for the regular 2c/5 spaceship (or any other, but I haven't checked). EDIT: Eater for c/2 spaceship is a block: Code: Select all x = 24, y = 7, rule = B35/S23 19b2o$18bo3b2o$2o16bobo$2o15bobobobo$18bobo$18bo3b2o$19b2o! I Like My Heisenburps! A very organic p412 from B358/S23:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 9, rule = B358/S23
2o3b2o$3o2bo$bo4$2bo$2bo$2bo! --- The beehive explosion seems fairly versatile for engineering. I found a p26 loop, possibly useful as a sparker: Code: Select all x = 12, y = 12, rule = B35/S23 8b2o$8b2o$3o5b2o$3o5$9b3o$2b2o5b3o$2b2o$2b2o!

The smallest four p2 do, as do the phoenices, and Octagon II. Any other shared oscillators? Simple still lifes that remain: —block —tub/barge series —snake series —ship —aircraft carrier (and its siamizations with snakes) —pond and lakes —mango —table/cap (on themselves; not stabilizable by a block) A "long cap" works as a 3-cell induction coil, but it needs a tub for stabilization at the other end. This allows for a spark coil variant: Code: Select all x = 12, y = 16, rule = B35/S23 2bo6bo$bobo4bobo$2bo6bo2$5o2b5o$o3bo2bo3bo$b3o4b3o2$b3o$o3bo3b3o$5o2bo 3bo$7b5o$2bo$bobo5bo$2bo5bobo$9bo!

There will probably be a way of making a high-period spaceship by combining several puffers together, but I haven't found a way yet.

Re: B35/S23

Your p136 orthogonal puffer came out of apgsearch v0.4:

Code: Select all

#C SHA-256(2014-09-15T01:53:29.429000_apg1012013)

ob5o$o2b2obob2o2bo$2o3bobobo2bobo$obobo3bob5o$b2o2bob2ob2o2b2o$b3o2bo 3bo2bobo! The script calls it yl68_1_17_f843afff9c5c3cef7d244e5948674525, though, since it considers the puffer to be a period-68 linear-growth pattern. (It doesn't recognise the difference between a gun, puffer, wickstretcher or slidegun -- it just analyses the population plot!) Pulsars are much rarer in this rule than in B3/S23, but still occur in the wild: Code: Select all #C SHA-256(2014-09-15T01:54:18.077000_apg45336) x = 16, y = 16, rule = B35/S23 bo3bo2bo2bobobo$b2o6bobobo$3b2o2bo2bob2obo$o3bobobo2b2o2bo$3obob2o4b2o$3bo4b2o2bo$b3obob2o3b2obo$b2obo2bo2bo$o3bob2ob2o2b2o$b3ob2o3b3ob2o$ob o2bo2b3ob2o$o2bo3b4o4bo$b3o7bobobo$2obo3b2o2b2ob2o$2b2o2bo3b2o2bo$o2bo

I suppose B35/S23 is the antithesis of B3/S238 in this respect...

Re: B35/S23

So.. I'm not the only one who knew of this.

EDIT:

Code: Select all
