This is one of those rules that is basically useless for engineering (not that that seems to stop you people :P) but which has a few interesting growth properties.

Take a minimal asymmetric seed for example:

Most areas of regular growth are sectors of about 20° next to the main axes, but the E-by-SE area seems to grow faster for some reason, at a width of about 30°…

A prepond shape

shows an actual quadratic growth area, emerging in the NW quadrant at about 3.0 kgens in and closing in on the chaos around the side's centerpoint after 5.6 kgens.

My favorite stable exploding rule has to be B23/S2346 tho… it has a wide variety of natural quadratic growth patterns, several ways for these to interact, while still having a good amount of unpredictability going too. For example:

Watch eg. the NW quadrant around 4 kgens: there's a strange series of "internal tagalongs" emerging that interrupt the row of diagonal growth patterns, yet the general regular diagonal growth remains unperturbed.

A rule I call Fuzz

A Persian rug styled rule that does have some still lifes from inside the growth, which is often sprawled and random but uniform patterns have uniform growth

B3/S1258 is very chaotic and Life-like.
B3578/S24678 or Geology is a very well-balanced and chaotic rule that forms large "continents" at a roughly 50% density, but they eventually erode away into smaller "islands".

Here's a rule I call "Rebirth", it can exhibit some interesting growth activity if the center of the pattern is random enough: 345/23/45

Very interesting that all those numbers reliably burn away naturally before the various spaceships even get there -- it's a very different dynamic (or lack of dynamic) from Conway's Life, which is much closer to the boundary between order and chaos.

I wonder if there's any possible hope of signal circuitry in this rule, presumably using the more common one of those rare spaceships... Looks like it would be near-impossible to design a still life that wouldn't collapse into vacuum when a spaceship hit it. But maybe a custom-designed high-period oscillator could throw out a big enough spark that a spaceship could modify it into two opposite 90-degree spaceships...?

The problem with getting any signal circuitry out of B34/S26 is that it just does not expand on its own, whereas Life has plenty of ways to reach out into the void with B-heptominoes, Pi-heptominoes, etc.. My manual observations have turned up no analogues in B34/S26. Still lifes are very probably out--the beehive may in fact be the only possible still life in this rule. B34/S26 is probably not salvageable with anything conventional. Maybe something exotic such as a loop of extensible oscillators with a signal running around them, but that's beyond me.

The apgsearch haul hasn't completed yet, but I found a new spaceship in B34/S26. It's not in David Eppstein's database. I'm guessing I've found twenty of the p6 spaceships so far outside of catagolue, and only the one of this thing.
