B356/S23

I just opened up Golly, typed in a random rule and I found some interesting stuff.

This rule is quite different to the Game of Life, even though the blinker and block works (the glider doesn't however). A lot of random patterns I tried out (just simple scribbles) died out completely after 5 generations.

I found a very weird pattern which produces a kind of 'tunnel', similar to the one produced by Langton's Ant, but orthogonal only:

One of the less investigated "near-Lifes" I think? The rule is actually (weakly) explosive, unlike both B35/S23 and B36/S23… but there are no really small seeds that lead to infinite growth. The smallest I found on a quick check-up is this:

A common evolution seen up there too is a small diagonally symmetric explosion (resulting from a lot of symmetric things — prepond, boat, loaf, teardrop) that would normally stabilize into two blinkers.
