Random posts 2

I don't know

EDIT by dvgrn: Edited title.

EDIT by PkmnQ (who is not dvgrn): It's not random posts itself that breaks the rules, it's just the toxicicty that breaks the rules.

Random posts isn't the problem, toxicity is. Don't be toxic.

Anyway, I created a CA which has a lot of infinte growths.

shaving cream EDIT by dvgrn (unless it's JP21 pretending to be dvgrn again, who really knows at this point?) replaced rule-2 word with a link just to keep some well-meaning busybody from reporting this post so that then we could go round and round again a few more times on this silly moderation merry-go-round. Apologies to anyone who might be offended by this edit, especially either JP21 or dvgrn, whoever didn't actually make the edit.

This is the new random posts thread. See this post (and the rest of the thread) for context.
I have historically worked on conduits, but recently, I've been working on glider syntheses and investigating SnakeLife.

What was the old title? I don't remember what it was.

Anyway I'm back and I'll try to do some actually interesting CA stuff

Yeah, that's your post. I didn't edit that one at all -- just adjusted the titles of the first and third posts slightly so that the title "Random posts 2" would show up everywhere.

And Now... The Rest Of The Story
So far things aren't going terribly well with this Sandbox Reformation Project. We just got yet another pair of posts reported on Random Post sandbox threads ... trying to get a moderator to take some random action, when I (at least) don't see why any action is needed.

Post Report #1
JP21, you reported a different Random Posts thread with the comment
If this thread is locked and there are other threads like this that are not locked, then please delete this thread.
This gives no cogent reason for the request. Why in Conway's name should I spend time fiddling around deleting that particular thread? Several people posted there; how would I know that they all want their posts deleted? Even if they did want their posts deleted, they should go right ahead and edit their posts so they say "delete me". When everybody has done that, maybe somebody will come along and delete the thread -- but then again, maybe not, because why would it matter at that point?

Long story short, take responsibility for your own posts. Nobody has promised to run around and clean up after you just because you tell them to. If you've posted silly embarrassing stuff in the Sandbox... well, really, that's your problem, not the forum moderators' problem.

Post Report #2
Then {censored} reported this thread, apparently without reading it well enough to notice that it was a moderator that helped set it up.

Will you all please please please just stop reporting garbage posts in the Sandbox, unless they actually need a moderator's attention? The only thing worse that you all piling huge amounts of silly junk posts in Sandbox threads, is having them pointed out to me with a forum post report so that I have to go look at it all.

This thread was here already, along with several other existing threads, as GUYTU6J pointed out this morning.

If the Sandbox keeps being more trouble than it's worth, Nathaniel might eventually decide to shut the whole thing down completely. That's one option.

What isn't an option is moderators trying to play Whack-A-Mole and lock new Word Chains or Random Posts threads whenever someone tries to create one. That's clearly obviously a lost cause and a waste of everyone's time, so it's not going to be happening.

So ... that means that ... this is a Sandbox thread, just as good as a whole lot of other Sandbox threads, and therefore people are welcome to post in it if they want to.

Here's How The Sandbox Usually Works
Let's work through an example. Usually when someone create a new Sandbox thread when they really, really shouldn't have -- this one here is a wonderful example --

... the moderators will just ignore it,
... so will everyone else,
... nothing bad will happen,
... and Life will continue. Eventually someone will successfully explain to the thread creator that it's kind of rude behavior to create a new thread when a new thread is absolutely completely not needed, and then they'll eventually stop.

The real problem only shows up when people start posting so often, and doing things that are so annoying, that other people start reporting their posts as forum rule violations.

When that happens, moderators end up not getting to work on the things that they would rather be working on, because instead they're writing long boring posts explaining How to Behave, to people who really ought to know better by this time already.

It may be true that I don't want my embarrassment, but my main line is that I find it annoying for other's random posts copies to survive while mine doesn't, and is probably because of {censored} and PHPBB12345 aimlessly reporting shaving cream EDIT by dvgrn (unless it's JP21 pretending to be dvgrn again, who really knows at this point?) replaced rule-2 word with a link just to keep some well-meaning busybody from reporting this post so that then we could go round and round again a few more times on this silly moderation merry-go-round. Apologies to anyone who might be offended by this edit, especially either JP21 or dvgrn, whoever didn't actually make the edit.
Now, they are trying to report some of the other sandbox threads.
In my point of view, they are the one mostly misbehaving, but other sandbox threads that really gives a low signal-to-noise ratio are the only ones that should be locked.
But I guess I just have to get used to all of it.
{censored} and PHPBB12345 are careless. I already added {censored} in my foe list because of the incident in my random posts. PHPBB12345 probably does not get english that well and can't read that this random posts is set by dvgrn.

Can be an alternative to apgsearch in rules with common linear growth/guns which choke apgsearch, or just a methuselah/diehard searcher

EDIT: v2 of the script adds an additional "exhaustive" mode which enumerates all patterns in a specific bounding box.
EDIT2: v2.1 now re-runs diehards to find their exact lifespan and also detects low, rare periods (this is really buggy, so for example a lepa can sometimes be recorded as p1)
EDIT3: v2.2 makes period detection significantly less buggy, though there's still bound to be errors.
EDIT4: Almost done, going to post this in Golly scripts when it is. v2.3 no longer saves files for rare, low period soups and instead creates a new layer and puts those soups there. Also going to call this script aysearch after nbsearch since AY are my initials

Reversible computing model

Code: Select all

INPUT initial
INPUT OUTPUT+HISTORY compute
INPUT OUTPUT OUTPUT+HISTORY copy output
INPUT OUTPUT "uncompute"

I don't completely understand. I understand what reversible computing means, but how is this a model?
Random posts isn't the problem, toxicity is. Don't be toxic.

Anyway, I created a CA which has a lot of infinte growths.

If you would like to overthrow the government in Venezuela, support the movement for a political transition at least on the left of the Left, without an interventionist bureaucracy or foreign policy. You don't have to fight for it. Your people should not have to fight for it.

If you would like to overthrow the government, make your way to the palace palace or to one of his appointed residences in the palace. There, you will find a door that leads straight to the palace. During your stay, you can enter the palace palace with the help of the guards of the palace and the guards will guide you in your mission. If you have no guard during your trip around the countryside you will be unable to complete the mission. At the palace palace you will be ordered through the guards to enter the palace and be greeted by a guard named 'Yuna'. If you do not agree with the guards, go to the palace building and leave after the guards that were present will begin their task. You can also try and persuade them to return to the palace after their mission. If you had the choice of either staying in the palace or leaving before being attacked, you will find the Palace Palace, a palace that was originally abandoned by the original bandits. As soon as you arrived on top of the palace palace you will be rewarded with the right to purchase a sword or other pieces of weaponry of your choice.

If you would like to overthrow the iluminatti, then you should have nothing to sacrifice.

A few days ago it came to my attention that your government has been considering, using the old (old) rule of "don't make it yourself" - what we call "in-principle of sacrifice". They are not really taking any part in the matter. It's that there were people who didn't understand who this was. The government has not really seen fit to support it unless it's an absolute monarchy or something like that. They're all just going about it as if the government were doing that. So the question becomes should they be allowed to continue this. We are very interested in that. The government won't want to join the whole thing. It wants not to join the whole. They know that the "correction" will happen. The people that voted for that government voted against it and now the new government is trying to force it to do it again. In other words, they're not going to support it or change its policy – so the question is whether or not it will do what it wants. If you want to overthrow an "interim" government then that's a very different thing.

How do you make sense of what happened yesterday?

The question comes down to whether or not you think you can overthrow some politicians. You could have a referendum on that and have everyone back in power. If you say "no" to

He who eats too much meat makes a great deal of noise, so that his nose does not make any noise about himself, because you have brought him over from the side of a bad man. Those are the two devils. They are three, because they show two kinds of virtue.

It might be objected by some that the writer had a difficult time reconciling the subject's subject-question with the subject itself. But, as we'll see, Mr. Boggus takes issue with this view altogether because it is against the law in the US to contradict the official position contained in his book.

The case of the soldier in question is much the same in all other respects by which it may be taken. See for instance, the article in his article "Military and Federal Orders" which says that for every soldier who is to be allowed entry for a specific reason, the military orders include one for each of the following circumstances:

(1) The soldier is in uniform.

(2) A lawful discharge has been taken.
