I'm not sure what's good to use that nomenclature, as there aren't many catalysts used currently and just naming them would suffice (and be easier to remember in most cases.) Also, you have two names for a snake, and I don't know what benefit that gives you. (I know that that tells you the repeat time for the catalyst in that situation, but what does that help?)

Just added it and one single rotation of Eater3. Since I don't have chris_c's fork, nor do I know how to put a catalyst in a ptblist using that fork, I added four rotations of the hook-with-tail.

Question: how to restore a otherwise-noncatalytic still life (let's say, a block) that is consumed in a reaction?

Either you get lucky and the reaction restores it all by itself (in which case it is a transparent block), or you have to engineer a mechanism to build it back later on either from glider collisions or a block factory. The second method is not notable for most cases, because the resulting conduit will be slow and not useful unless a specific application demanded it. New fast-recovering (say, <100 gen) transparent catalysts are usually pretty nice finds, but are pretty much unpredictable, so they are best found by search programs.

There are no catalysts in the way of the boat, which means it is easily accessible. However a block is consumed.
I have heard of that the Snark's still life derived from a block that Bellman catalysed somehow. How did him do it? Can it be done to replace the block in this H-->boat?

That's easy enough. But why do you want to build that circuit, exactly? When you're all done making that connection, it looks like you'll have a really slow and inefficient Herschel-to-nothing converter. You will have shot down both of the extra blinkers you created.

So... why not just use the standard beehive Herschel stopper on the input Herschel, and save yourself a lot of time and trouble?

Hersrch -e parameters are easiest to put together if you start with a working batch file -- like the one in the sample Hersrch search script link a few pages back -- and progressively modify it until it does the search you want. First look at the existing -e parameter until you understand exactly what output Herschel locations it's searching for, and why those relative locations will fit correctly into the template pattern.

If you try that, what goes wrong? What error messages do you get, or what don't you understand?

The classic predecessor to a LOM is the stairstep hexomino, by the way -- much smaller and lower population than your predecessor.

Actually I wish a H-to-G.
But since you are right -- just apply a beehive, or a block, or a eater, or... -- I might have to put instead some H-to-Hs that connect to the H-to-G.
Anyway, where to get precompiled chris_c ptbsearch pack (latest stable)? My MinGW don't work well.
EDIT: And I don't like having to input non-RLE stuff into such programs.

Well, my idea is that a circuit C that is also built by a spartan circuit B extension, which is built by the previous circuit A, builds those extra still lives in the offspring. Then the destruct circuit is circuit D, which destroys old A, B and C, which leaves gliders that destruct circuit D itself.

It is very important to have hands on chris_c's version of ptbsearch, as it will be much easier!
EDIT: I might do a rule table that have 27 states: one empty and the other 26 corresponding to A-Z cells in ptbsearch inputs.
The rule outputs ptbcell format, the one used by ptbsearch input.
I only should know how to do so...
Oh and also, another good parameter for ptbsearch would rather be the minimal generation for catalysts to react. :wink:

I've posted a template for a complete Circuit A or B that you could use as a puzzle in the patched Seeds of Destruction Game v0.4. You can certainly give that a try if you want.

However, please look at the problem carefully before you try to find a solution! The "pure glider destruction" patterns you posted wouldn't be useful at all. You've thrown too many gliders at the problem, and they interact with each other.

For example, your LWSS is constructed by three synchronized gliders, that all have to come in with exactly the right timing relative to each other. If you sent them in on the right lanes, but with a different timing, you'd get a big mess, not an LWSS.

The initial self-destruct signal for the Demonoid is probably going to be a single glider coming in from the southeast. If your solution needs synchronized gliders, you'll have to build them yourself, by crashing the initial glider into extra still lifes that you would have to add in just the right places. That's difficult, and expensive. Probably if you get sidetracked doing that much work, someone else will come up with something simpler, and your work won't get used.

Another problem with some of your destructions is that you allowed gliders to escape. "Clean" also means no leftover gliders flying around causing trouble.

The Demonoid project is a fairly advanced Optimization Game. The idea is to solve the self-destruct problem by adding the absolute minimum number of gliders and additional still lifes. If you find yourself adding ten gliders or forty blocks or whatever, stop! -- and then go back a few steps and look for a more efficient solution.

I'd like some input on this thought I had regarding SoD: should I add the honeyfarm constellation as a bait object? It's completely impractical in the current version, and yet they're one of the cheapest stable patterns to produce. Naturally, fixing the save game issues is important, but I had just been thinking that we could miss a cheaper method involving an HF.
