It can't. Since a mango can already be synthesized with 3 gliders, an improvement would have to be a 2-glider synthesis. There are only 71 ways to collide two gliders, and we've tried all of them. None of them create a mango.

That MWSS+Pond collision doesn't look like it could improve on what we have now. You'd have to get rid of the stray tub, then get a Herschel into the appropriate position. Since we already have two good MWSS->G converters, chris_c's universal *WSS->G, and the syringe, there's no way that the MWSS+Pond reaction could be perturbed quickly enough to be an improvement.

Oh, I apologize; for some reason I'd mentally mixed up your work with the HWSS+block and the universal converter. Eek. Will edit.

So, what is the universal *WSS-->G?
I could make an G-->LWSS but that would take some work as of yet using well-known glider-->pi collisions to generate a Herschel then H-to-2H and restore the still life in collision.

There are better designs for G-to-LWSS and G-to-MWSS. Look at chris_c's recent constructions, and if your proposed design will be bigger and/or slower to recover, there's no reason to spend the time building it or posting it. It's certainly possible that a G->LWSS with a smaller bounding box could be found, though:

It's good that you can see that there's no room left for a reasonable circuit to restore the boat. It will save you a lot of work next time around if you look for problems like that before you start constructing big complicated devices.

There's also the challenge of creating a modern LWSS or MWSS edge-shooter, if you want to try that. It could use the same final reaction as the template pattern for the sample Hersrch search script thread. Or quite possibly something better can be found now.

@Gustavo, that Hersrch walkthrough link might be worth working your way through carefully, if you still don't understand how to set up Hersrch searches with the -e parameter.

A spaceship edge-shooter would probably be slower to recover than chris_c's G-to-*WSSes, but it could be used to construct salvos of *WSSes much closer together. Who knows, maybe *WSS construction recipes will get investigated someday... though I can't think why, exactly: they're provably interchangeable with glider recipes, in the sense that collisions between *WSSes can create all glider-constructible objects, and nothing outside that set.

It might be, but do you have any idea how to go about performing such a conversion? It will involve performing two operations simultaneously (moving the boat and turning it into a block, and turning the block into a cis-snake), neither of which is a trivial task, especially since you can't figure out how to do something MUCH easier, e.g. turning a block into a boat in place.

This isn't a "spark", but rather a grandfather of the R pentomino. Since the R pentomino can be created from 3 gliders in many ways, there is little incentive to create this specific predecessor, but if you really need to do that, it should be easy to do by welding a domino spark (2-3 gliders) to a blinker (2 gliders).

Again, this is a highly artificial predecessor that would require a lot of work to synthesize, but why bother, since there are already many ways of making a bakery out of 3 gliders?

Before looking for new ways to synthesize common objects, you should probably look at how such objects are already synthesized, to avoid duplicated and wasted effort.

Sure. Like many other speculative signal object types -- E and H' and so on -- the D-octomino will be much more interesting once there's at least one working X-to-D conduit and a working D-to-Y conduit that can connect to the X-to-D -- where X and Y are known signal types.

As you say, your current HR16D doesn't connect to any of your D inputs -- it's not even close. Also, the D doesn't travel very far before some of its side sparks destroy the HR16D's catalysts, around T=20. That leaves very little space or for a D input conduit to place catalysts.

So probably there's no way to make it work. Like your HFx37B, the HR16D most likely can only be salvaged with extreme wishful thinking or supernatural intervention.

Until you find better connections, there's no way to actually use these converters with anything else, so they can't be used to help solve signal connection problems. They can only create new problems, such as: "how can I actually insert a D-octomino into any of these D input conduits, starting from a known signal?"

I think these are known, but not recorded anywhere because there doesn't seem to be a way to use them. Notably, though, the second pattern is in the conduit collection in a form where one of the B outputs is killed off before it can interfere with the other one.

Very unlikely, at least as you're stating the question. You'd have to wait 200 ticks before any catalysts could be allowed to interact, because if they interact before T=200, the modified reaction probably wouldn't produce the same glider.

After T=200 there's relatively little space to place catalysts, and the active area has moved far away from the block. The odds are really horribly low that a few catalysts can pull off the trick of "throwing" a block that far away and landing it in exactly the right location, and clean up the junk at the same time. It's not absolutely impossible, but it might as well be.

@Gustavo, can I ask a favor? Could you please set up your patterns so that LifeViewer can run them? The block in this pattern is red instead of white, so the pattern runs as a regular pi explosion.

Fairly often recently you have posted patterns with some of the key elements marked in red, so anyone who wants to run them has to spend extra time copying into Golly and manually editing those pieces.
