Also what do you mean by "methuselah"? Why would a blinker+glider not work?

I assume only "nontrivial" methuselahs (methuselahs you can't just adjust trivially and get something which lasts longer) are counted
ok fine "adjust trivially" is moving some part of the methuselah farther away to last longer but when that region is eventually hit it produces the same evolutionary sequence as if it was closer

The longest lived "nontrivial" 8 cell methuselah is not 7468m, it is this (14321 generations):

The joke is that these are actually true—but not in the way that one would expect, where the R-pentomino doesn't interact with the other objects for several hundred generations.

2718281828's definition is much clearer without all those illdefined chains IMO

Then again maybe it's the best to resort to single-cluster and 7468M

That is why I typed additional. Figuring out how to backtrack a glider might require searching, but it would only require searching for the first two ticks backtracked.
