Moderators,

The children on the forum should be discouraged from posting such comments. Not only is this one not true but it serves no useful purpose. glitterinablender chose to post in a thread which adequately describes his pattern. All forum members should understand and respect the very wide range of interests represented here.

Hunting should be discouraged from posting such comments. Not only is this one not true but it serves no useful purpose. Bprentice chose to post a comment which adequately describes his own purpose, which was ultimately influenced by an earlier misunderstanding he had nothing to do with. Furthermore, all forum members — looking pointedly at you, Hunting and JP21 — should understand and respect Dani by not constantly and pointlessly bringing up her (NOT "his") years-old defunct account. [Hunting's general conduct on this forum has likewise provided additional evidence for bprentice's implicit claim that young forum members tend to be harmfully disrespectful to newcomers.]

For three glider collisions you could measure the time from when the last glider collides. I believe that three glider collisions haven't all been done yet, so it's entirely possible one of them will make a switch engine.

That has to be the most useless accidental discovery I have ever seen. Why use an exotic palladium catalyst when you can just use THF and NaOH?
Because if you didn't discover it with palladium, you wouldn't ever know that you can do it also using THF and NaOH.

Yes, I think that destroying R using single eater is likely to be already known. I'm not so sure about the other reaction though. It may be actually new.

Speaking of the fake Sir Robin synthesis, predictions that turned out to be correct, and memorable quotes (or at least quotes that would be memorable if they were true), imagine if instead of this:

Then why does Sir Robin appear to have scoliosis?
That's a feature, not a bug.

Edit: Calcyman originally claimed that GPSEs could not reflect signals but ended up being the one to prove my version of the universal constructor universal.
calcyman wrote:

The object needs to be able to reflect gliders at period 192, which means that the mechanism responsible for reflecting the glider must occur at a period which divides 192. This is the case for the Sakapuffer (96 divides 192), but not for the GPSE (384 does not divide 192).

Unfortunately, it's impossible to avoid this concept altogether and forget the descriptor "methuselah" to a pattern. After all, if we did so, what would the first posts of all new users be? "I have found a pattern that takes somewhat longer than other patterns to stabilise into a bounded-population constellation of various still lifes, oscillators and diverging spaceships!"

...or maybe "Is this 34c/117 spaceship known?" (there might be bugs in wfind) ~~wdr
