...I tend to think that maybe usually names of rules are not such an important thing to request specific justifications for each of them, at least until someone becomes a little bit too overenthusiastic with naming things, or until the name is clearly problematic in some obvious way, or something. Anyway in the end it is just someone's idea.
There was an incomplete attempt to summarize these ancient modifiers for close life variants:

t- prefix for any rule with S2-i34q
y- prefix for any rule with S2-i35y

Eight for any S238
Pedestrian for any B38 (regardless of whether traffic lights are possible)
"Just" for any B2-a [EDITOR'S NOTE: or rather "sansdomino"?]

and quite a few others that I keep forgetting
...
But they are quite arbitrary and may not actually reflect a similarity between the designated rule and the namesake rule.

Would you refer to the following rule as Pedestrian Dry Iron Mirror t Salad (or any permutation between the first five, or Honey in place of Pedestrian for the coexistence of B8 and S8, or whatever else for the coexistence of B678)? For me this name sucks. Why not a shorter and more creative name, or even just leave it unnamed?

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B2i3-kq4cj678/S2-i34q8

All names are somewhat arbitrary, as well as any criteria by which one might attempt to judge which name is "more creative" and/or "less arbitrary". If someone decides to refer to that particular rule in that particular way - well, maybe so be it... unless of course they become a little bit too overenthusiastic about that. I did not look at that particular rule, so I do not have any specific ideas about whether/how to name it.

That aside, I’d prefer lexicographical ordering. E.g., t-dry-mirror-vessel-life, and t-dry-high-eight-mirror-pedestrian life in your example.

There are actually some cases where this nomenclature makes sense: t-mirror life. It has the mirror reaction and the T, and the combination of those features actually help engineering in that rule.

How much of current CA technology can I redevelop "on a desert island"?

What if human hybridization went from what it is now to scary things like Moe Anthropomorphism and furries. And for every species made, there would be a reproductive partner. What if they took people's jobs, leaving millions broke or homeless.

I surely wouldn't want this thing taking my job:

Congratulations on absolutely wrecking my imaginary eyeballs. I certainly would not want my real eyes to break due to this.
If they ever do exist in real life, I would have become a physicist/engineer/scientist (or whatever profession needed) that would invent a device that could transfer anyone (and itself) to a different universe.
If that fails, I would of course build a starship to escape the horrible planet full of it.
I honestly wouldn't know how to live properly if that fictional scenario were to be real.
I would rather live in a world full of zombies than that.
For now, I can use the "Click to Remove Element" google chrome extension to protect my eyes.

I think using a time machine would be a good idea.
I could go back to the past, and then prevent anime and furries from existing. And so that People will never have to see an image like that ever again.

But maybe we’re just overthinking it.

EDIT:
I got some good news and some bad news:
The good news is that it is illegal to make human hybrids via genetic modification.
The bad news is that there are other ways of making them that don’t require genetic modification.

EDIT2:
Panic message:
People made a human-chimpanzee hybrid back in 2021.
The kemonomimi apocalypse is in reach!!!

Inflating R-pentominoes in LFoDHistory. With the one on the left, both the interior and the exterior become p2 after a while (the interior after some 280K+ ticks). What happens with the one on the right?

That's a bit too unpredictable.
I think this thread is more for things like Monkeys singing Chinese or this image I made of Albert Einstein eating an ugly cockroach:

I must add that it's been a bit difficult to keep track of what's known and what's new lately, due to the c/2 technology flood in March and April. The only reason why it's even stopped is because I've been trying to collect it all. X_X

I'll also try to make a new GUI for Cobalt.
EDIT: I still don't have headaches, migraines, nausea, or eye damage any more than I did before.

Actually, this thread is for evading the lock I put on the previous random posts thread. These threads are too much work to moderate and tend to invite posts that bend or even outright break the rules. For that reason I'm locking this thread. I think any further random post threads should be for CA-related posts only.
