seeking small stable LW->G 135 degree

Post by triller » April 6th, 2020, 8:47 pm

Help!
Most (all?) of the existing (known) LW->G p30 devices are 45 degree.
Of course, 2 p30 guns will give me 135 degree, as will a 45 + 90 degree compound.
I've got narrow paths of adjacent LWSS's to pick off and redirect.
Any pointer will be appreciated.

I don't know how much room you need, but this is the first one I found:

Code: Select all

p30 lwss to glider reflector
Found in Jason Summers' misc/ss2glider collection.

This is a tricky question.

There is a reason for there being a small stable 45-degree LWSS-to-G but not a 135 degree one I know of. There is three possibility of catalyst placement:
  • The catalyst is in front of the LWSS track.
  • The catalyst is on the side of LWSS track.
  • In front of the track, but with a transparent bait like Snark.

Code: Select all

5B$44.5B$44.5B!
The first option require a catalyst with high clearance, and the third option is relatively harder to find, I think, as restoration is hard. (And then that probably won't be what you call "small", and will not handle tight LWSS packs.) I suppose it's more likely to find a side-catalyst.

You could pair a snark with a 45 degree LWSS ->G, as you mentioned, so presumably that's not small enough. I feel there was one on the wiki but I'm not sure where :(

I've never understood why the "45-degree" reflector has an angle of 135 degrees between the glider and XWSS, while the "135-degree" reflector has an angle of 45 degrees. Can someone explain why this is the case?

We're not talking about the angle between the glider's and LWSS paths, but what angle it turns.

Yeah. Basically, otherwise, empty space would be a 180 degree reflector, and that is clearly nonsense.

That picture is of a 45-degree G-LWSS.
