Life on a Donut

Post by larry009 » April 8th, 2020, 11:36 am

Hi,

I've been interested in the Game of Life for many years.
I've just written a free iPhone app that iterates Life on the surface of a torus (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/life-on-a ... 16320?ls=1). Website is here: https://sites.google.com/view/lifeonadonut
It uses the amazing power of the smartphone GPU's to render updates at 60 FPS and it's very pleasing to watch.

I'm interested in adding more patterns to the small library I currently support.
If anyone has any favourite patterns they'd like to see, let me know.

If it fits in the donut space (currently 288 x 144 pixels) I will add it.

Cheers,
Larry

Sorry for this, but... do you know of this forum's official cross-platform GoL simulator, Golly?

I really like the visualisation on this app. It's great to watch spaceships flying around the torus. Nice job!

The top pattern was added in version 1.2 (it's called "Unknown").

It’s pufferfish.
Pufferfish corderoid actually. The pufferfish itself is a puffer.
