Some questions:

Why are some sounds omitted?
Is the last sound ch as in cheese?
Other than diphthongs are these the only sounds?
Is c always pronounced like in cinnbar?
Is there a way to make a short u?

Also, I think the diphthongs should be au, ai, oi, ao, oa, and ei.
I don't think the missing ones are needed. Yes,these are only, altrough I think we will also have ch as in cheese. Check on Internet how to pronounce Ж,altrough I think we can remove it.
You forgot the diphtongs eo,ia and maybe also some others.
Have a good day!

Can we please make the letter J make the sound y as in you? Since that's /j/.

I'm working on a language called Mercfalk. It would be romance-based and reminds of auxlangs.
By the way, the profile says that I come from Hijuatl, Zumaland. This "Zumaland" fictional island will use Mercfalk (as it's auxlang).

Code: Select all

Vowels:
a, e, i, o, u (same as IPA)

Diphthongs:
ai, au, ei, eu, oi, ou

Consonants:
b, p, f, v, t, d, z, ts, r, l, j, g, w, h (same as IPA)
digraph ds makes /dz/ sound
letter s makes /s/ sound
digraph sh makes /ʃ/ sound; digraph ch makes /tʃ/ sound
digraph jj makes /ʒ/ sound; digraph dj makes /dʒ/ sound
digraph hh makes /x/ sound
letter c makes /k/ sound before a, o, u; makes /s/ sound before e, i
letter k is only used before e, i; makes /k/ sound
digraph qu makes /kw/ sound before vowel
digraph gu makes /gw/ sound before vowel

Parts of speech:
Two letter words are special (example la = the, de = of, si = yes). There is no indefinite article.
Pronouns have two letters (example me = I, tu = you, il = she)
Possessive pronouns add -an as if adjective (example mean = my/mine, tuan = you/yours etc.)
Nouns end in -a; plurals end in -as; there is no nominative or accusative, nor masculine and feminine
Adjectives end in -an; adverbs end in -ali
Verbs can conjugate to infinitive (-e), present (-es), past (-ed), future (-en), conditional (-el); perfect uses "av" for the "have" part in English; there is no continuous.
Prepositions end in -i
Correlatives (words like "what", "there", "somewhere") end in -u: Questions (e.g. where) start with "qu", Definite (e.g. there) start with "t", Indefinite (e.g. somewhere), universal (e.g. everywhere), negative (e.g. nowhere) undecided.

Haven't finished vocabulary yet, but will be borrowed from French, Italian, and Spanish.
If you have any suggestions, please tell me.

This is only a place for my language.
I know about that y is IPA j but I think it will look better.

There are two slightly distinct j sounds in English:
1)jump
jolt
magic

2)Taj Mahal
decision
vision

I think the first one should be dj, and the second one be j.

You may be thinking about dzh and zh?
Beauty-Mik
Beautiful-Mikni
-ni - makes the word an adjective

I also think think we should change animal names to be non-onomatopoeic because they aren't like that in most languages. Cat doesn't sound like meow, cow doesn't sound like moo.

Edit:
Dog = plek
frog = ralake
horse = it

I attempted to make them sound as such. They sound very modern but are still onomatopeic in origion. I think my sounds are enough onomatopeic, but also enough modern.

Haven't seen that. Not reallly sure. In Serbian most our animal names are to some degree onomatopeic.
Can you make some names for male and female?Important:your words sound Turkish, try not to make them like that again.

dog - köpek - chien(ne)
horse - at - cheval
frog - kurbağa - grenouille
mouse - fare - souris
bat - yarasa - chauve souris (literally bald mouse)
cow - inek - vache

We should focus on establishing grammar and phonotactics. Saka and Moosey should be able to help.
Vocabulary is not that important now,but we still need some.
Lo - male,man
Pe - female,woman
Ko - child
I leave to you word human.

We have to specify the difference between the sounds that c, k, and s produce. In English it's pretty arbitrary what letter we use but I don't know if we should do that in this language. Maybe c + {e,i} should make it pronounced like s but why not use s in the first place?

C - IPA ts (C is ts in IPA I think)
