I can't reliably pronounce it - maybe a Goodlanguage native speaker can :))
Is that what we're calling it now? Also, do you have any ideas for vocabulary or really anything else?
I've been calling it that for a while (or at least "the good language").
No, it's a temporary name.

Another way to do it is to start with /j/, close it until you hear fricative turbulence, then turn off voicing.
Thanks. I think I can now pronounce it, though I feel like throwing up whenever I do.

It's intentional TBH. That's why you should not hyx.

So now that you've all watched/read that video, how should we handle modality stuff?

Sorry, I forgot to watch the video, I'm watching it right now. It's not that long anyway.

I would admit to also not having watched the video, but it would be untrue.

Ok, at least we should have ways of saying can, would, and should. I will rewatch the video now because I forgot most of it. Sorry, I didn't check on this thread yesterday or the day before.

Maybe we could add verb endings for unreal events and then use adverbs or similar to choose between meanings like that. Or maybe we could reinterpret the existing future marker as an irrealis marker and use that for this, without necessarily having future meaning in those cases.

I think I kind of want the former, but I really am okay with either. Do you have a special preference? Also, what different types of unreal events would there be? The video shows only one unreal conditional, though the Wikipedia article on irrealis mood has many.

I think we'd only mark one on the verb, and use adverbs or similar for finer meanings. We could also make those optional when inferable.

We really should make the translation 1:1, so that it can be translated.

What do you mean by that exactly? You're always posting but I never see you on the list of people who are online. How is that?

A word in English will always mean the same thing in this language and the other way around.

That's unrealistic. As I said before on this thread, different languages make different distinctions. For example, most languages only have <lose>, while English also has <misplace>. All languages probably also have words or meanings that don't exist in others.

We can use context. Some languages like French and Turkish have a singular and plural/formal you. They both translate to <you> in English, but we with even a tiny bit of context, you can know how to translate it. Even more complex examples can be done this way. Are you monolingual?

I haven't had much experience with other languages except Spanish in school. The problem is that we cannot prove for sure that words will translate one way or another using context. For all we know, someone might intentionally be using the wrong context or something else like that. :P

You are right that context might not always be enough. That's why there are different translation of books like the Bible or foreign novels. Though context is usually enough for day-to-day speech or simpler texts. Do you have any ideas for this language?

Someone should start making the irrealis affixes and the adverbs.
