I feel like there should be a three-glider ship-tie synthesis. I know that ship-ties typically form in pairs (from fleet predecessors), but it seems like there should be at least one three-glider collision that produces a fleet predecessor and an object or active region that annihilates one of the ship-ties. After all, there's an analogous three-glider collision for a half-bakery, and half-bakeries are rarer than fleets.
Code: Select all
x = 11, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
6b2o$obo2b2o$b2o4bo$bo2$9b2o$8b2o$10bo!
Also, making a loaf and a P spark shouldn't require five gliders.

I'm sorry, but no, we have basically enumerated all 3-glider collisions and we can be 99.99% confident that there is no 3G ship tie.

I accept that, but it still seems like probabilistically, if someone re-rolled the pseudorandomness dice for glider syntheses) there would be a three-glider synthesis for a ship-tie. (Please don't do that, by the way. I like the two-glider fishhook and three-glider switch engine.)

Don't you love it when you find a transparent catalyst?

Idk, a 2G tub or 2G ship or 2G LWSS for that matter (which is only 1 object rarer than the fishhook) would be nice
a 2G pulsar would also be a plausible alternative I suppose

Yes, but fishhooks are used in patterns disproportionately often because they are useful catalysts. If there were a census of most common patterns in RLEs (in B3S23), it would probably look something like this:
- Block
- Fishhook
- Glider
- Herschel
- Tub
- Boat
- Eater 2
- Large, possibly welded, catalyst
- XWSS
- Transparent beehive
This list is partially but not completely a joke, and it may be influenced by the fact that I have done a lot of work on conduits.

I saw a post in the OCA DOTY 2020 voting thread regarding me:
Hunting wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2021, 12:15 am
Also, one thing I always wanted to point out is a rule's creator should not own a rule. People who explored it should. Otherwise like what GUYTU6J once said, one could trivially own many rules by making a large list of INT rules, which is ridiculous.
For reference, that statement was
here. Speaking of large list of INT rules, I'm reminded of Prof. Emmanuel Sapin's alien gun collection; is there an easier available list of the 15,000+ INT rules in the collection, or some Python function to scan the RLEs?
---
Just realize that
one of the entries from Naszvadi uses a rule I discovered but didn't bother to look into. Also, I became kind of shy towards the activity after seeing my 2019 entry on place, so I didn't advertise my own OCA discoveries as much as before. A consequence is that my
Takagi function growth pattern — which was discovered in 2020 and could be slightly more interesting than the entry above — is forgotten. I don't regret, though, so just let the voting go like now.

I accidentally led Ampere on a pointless goose chase for a 2c/3 then realized that I had somehow accidentally typed B26/S12 and not B26/S23. Sorry, Ampere.

I tried to make Hillstretcher able to have gliders (it failed, S3q makes it explode but if you exclude S3q you can't have hillstretchers) and I managed to end up at LeapLife with S4i added. I ran a soup, and
Code: Select all
x = 4, y = 4, rule = B2n3/S23-q4i
b3o$ob2o$4o$bo!

The MCell built-in General binary rule "LogicRule" is intended to be B2ae/S in Hensel notation, as can be derived from an ancient website logic-ca.com. The site has long been down, and the following archive of contents is the most recent one I could find on Wayback Machine:
I think Logic Rule may worth an LifeWiki OCA article, for the sake of these early logic signal circuitry demonstrations.

Stroop test (if you don't know what it means, search for it on Wikipedia. This test is for telling if you are an extreme LifeEnthusiast.)

This is not a Stroop test.

ColorfulGalaxy likes to use apgcodes for non-periodic patterns a lot. (I used repeated zeros instead of letters near the end of the alphabet in order to make word separation easier and made the vertical gap larger in order to prevent the second line from being skewed vertically.)

What apgcode?
Did you mean that non-periodic patterns don't have apgcodes?

They don't have apgcodes in the traditional sense, but it's possible to get Catagolue to display them by using xp0, xs0, xa0, xb0, etc….

Then why did ColorfulGabrielsp138 call it "Stroop test"?
It isn't a Stroop test.

The words in the apgcode appear to be color names.

And you can even using almost anything that begins with "x" such as "xkcd":

Why did you orient it so that the glider goes downwards?

I thought that form was the canonical orientation form.

Here's a random difficult challenge: without running this pattern (or doing something like using the identify feature in LV), say what object it's a 6-generation predecessor for...
Code: Select all
x = 16, y = 13, rule = B3/S23
