Gliders In The Sea Of Blocks [Game]

Post by Pavgran » June 6th, 2023, 1:12 pm

Please read the rules and the example game

A while ago, a lone glider was traveling in a vacuum, until it encountered a peculiar sea. It was consisting entirely of blocks, and the glider was having fun being perturbed, tossed around, multiplied and killed while rippling the sea. But before finally leaving the sea and going on its way to meet another one, it made sure that the sea remained pristine and there were nothing but blocks in it.

Rules
  1. Game is played in turns by forum members. Double-posting is discouraged.
  2. Each turn adds one or more blocks (preferably less than 6) to the pattern, such that these blocks interact with the end of (one of) the previous reaction(s), extending it.
  3. The result of the new reaction has to consist of nothing but blocks, gliders, and a controllable active region(s). The gliders have to be able to escape to infinity or react with other blocks in a controllable way.
    • This rule is intended to be followed by the spirit. In turn 10 of the game below, for example, formally there's also a beehive in addition to the pi active region, but it interacts soon enough to not count as forbidden still live.
  4. The initial glider has to be able to come from infinity.
  5. Pseudo still lives consisting of blocks such as bi-blocks, tri-blocks and such are not allowed.
Example game
  • Turn 0:

    Code: Select all

    x = 3, y = 3, rule = LifeSuper
    .2M$M.M$2.M!

    The glider travels to infinity.
  • Turn 1:

    Code: Select all

    x = 20, y = 10, rule = LifeSuper
    13.2O3.2O$13.2O3.2O6$.2M$M.M$2.M!

    The glider meets two blocks, leaving two blocks behind and making a controllable honeyfarm explosion.
  • Turn 2:

    Code: Select all

    x = 22, y = 14, rule = LifeSuper
    2Q$2Q3$15.2O3.2O$15.2O3.2O6$3.2M$2.M.M$4.M!

    The HF explosion is perturbed by an additional block, resulting in a very controllable Herschel. It's very controllable because its first glider just deletes two blocks, and so the first interaction with the Herschel doesn't have to prevent this glider.
  • Turn 3:

    Code: Select all

    x = 22, y = 46, rule = LifeSuper
    2.2S$2.2S31$2Q$2Q3$15.2O3.2O$15.2O3.2O6$3.2M$2.M.M$4.M!

    The Herschel is perturbed, making another very controllable Herschel.
  • Turn 4:

    Code: Select all

    x = 39, y = 49, rule = LifeSuper
    34.2U$34.2U2$2.2S$2.2S28$37.2U$37.2U2$2Q$2Q3$15.2O3.2O$15.2O3.2O6$3.
    2M$2.M.M$4.M!

    Two more blocks exploit the same reaction. The final Herschel emits a glider escaping to infinity, and interacts with blocks left in a previous reaction in a somewhat uncontrollable way. To prevent huge explosion with a lot of pesky still lives, the Herschel has to be interacted with early enough, but that's possible.
  • Turn 5:

    Code: Select all

    x = 52, y = 49, rule = LifeSuper
    47.2U$47.2U2$15.2S$15.2S20$2W$2W$14.2W$14.2W5$50.2U$50.2U2$13.2Q$13.
    2Q3$28.2O3.2O$28.2O3.2O6$16.2M$15.M.M$17.M!

    Another two blocks perturb the reaction. It's important that they leave only blocks in previous area.
  • Turn 6:

    Code: Select all

    x = 63, y = 49, rule = LifeSuper
    58.2U$58.2U2$26.2S$26.2S20$11.2W$11.2W$25.2W$25.2W5$61.2U$61.2U2$24.
    2Q$2pA22.2Q$2pA2$39.2O3.2O$39.2O3.2O6$27.2M$26.M.M$28.M!

    One block calms the reaction, so that all the remnants are the blocks and the glider from turn 4.
Game begins now

The example game continues from turn 6. You can interact with the lone glider from the example game, or perturb the final block creation in some way to squeeze more from the initial block arrangement.
Let's have fun and not stumble into dead-end!

Turn 8
Diehard is perturbed to emit a glider (which passes close to the parallel reaction, but escapes unaffected), and traffic lights.

Code: Select all

x = 67, y = 79, rule = LifeSuper
62.2U$62.2U2$30.2S$30.2S20$15.2W$15.2W$29.2W$29.2W5$65.2U$65.2U2$28.

44.2O3$40.2O$40.2O9$33.2U$33.2U3$31.2U$.2M28.2U$M.M$2.M!
Also, I've added a rule that the initial glider has to be able to come from infinity at every step.

The extra traffic light was removed.
Also, do bi-blocks, tri-blocks, xs16_rr0rr's, etc. count?

Turn 10.
It's time to proliferate.
There're a lot of reactions there, but at the end the result is a few gliders flying away, a tameable pi explosion aimed at a block and a beehive nearby.

Code: Select all

x = 90, y = 89, rule = LifeSuper
85.2U$85.2U2$53.2S$29.2O22.2S$29.2O11$38.2O$38.2O7$38.2W$38.2W$52.2W$

66.2O3.2O$66.2O3.2O11$7.2O$7.2O4$58.2O11.2O$58.2O7.2O2.2O$67.2O$2O$2O
$63.2O$63.2O9$56.2Q$56.2Q3$54.2Q$54.2Q7$55.2U$55.2U2$14.2M$13.M.M$15.
M!
Clarification:
Those stray gliders can be catched one-by-one, essentially branching the game into different almost independent areas, which may eventually interact. It's okay to leave any stray glider unattended for several turns, and it's okay to switch between different zones, provided that all the reactions are controllable.

No, pseudo still lives don't count. Only pure blocks. I've updated the rules.

Turn 28. Other G -> LWSS
LWSSes and other spaceships are not allowed, only blocks, gliders and active regions are.
I converted LWSS to another active region when it was close enough to the dying spark to be considered a big active region.

Turn 29. (very temporary) LWSS -> 2g + small active region.
