By the way, has anyone looked for a syringe replacement that takes advantage of the fact that a beehive can serve as a one-glider seed for an R-pentomino? I think that this might be worthwhile for three main reasons:
• An R-pentomino can be converted to a B-heptomino or Herschel relatively quickly and easily compared to a ∏-heptomino because it spawns them naturally.
• Beehives are common, so transparent beehive reactions are feasible, such as in the boojum, the rectifier, and the original century eater in the bistable switch.
• An R-pentomino naturally splits into two active regions early on that don't interact with each other until about 80 generations later, so it should be easy to use one to export a signal and use the other to restore the beehive.

Fishhooks may recover in more unusual ways, but this is rare, and the fishhook must not lose any of its cells besides the one at the outward tip of its preblock in order for it to recover. In this example, the fishhook does four catalyses. Only the third has an unusual recovery method (due to the fact that one of the cells in the ∏-heptomino that interacted with the fishhook was not sufficiently supported and therefore died), and the fishhook did not lose any of its cells besides the one at the outward tip of its preblock.

I don't know if this is going to work or not, but I've created a separate thread for periodic Herschel conduits, where this kind of thing could go.

This current thread is already up to 43 pages, and tends to get cluttered up with speculative sort-of-conduits that half the time don't actually connect to anything known, or take up a lot of space, or recover so slowly that they aren't really useful. It would be nice to do exploratory work elsewhere, if possible, and keep this thread more for actual workable discoveries.

That gives me an idea: If we can figure out how to synchronize three ∏-heptominoes, or optimally, find a catalyst that can replace at least one ∏-heptomino, then that would give us an LWSS going away from where the ∏-heptominoes come from.
My other idea is to find a way to stabilize a B-heptomino that has already been created into an LWSS, which could also be useful for an LWSS quasi-Heisenburp.

Edit: Actually, if we can't replace at least one ∏-heptomino, we may as well try to synchronize three gliders instead of three ∏-heptominoes.

Another edit: Actually, the conduit already given would have a lower repeat time if we simply had a way to make a Herschel from an alternative direction.

Obviously, the eight-tick predecessor that I found would be extremely unlikely to actually occur, but even the six-tick predecessor looks mostly decent, and some variations of that six-cell predecessor that also work, such as 5bo$2bo$b4o$o$b2o$2b2o$4bo2bo$5bobo, look very plausible. Even the seven-tick predecessor bears a strong resemblance to generation thirteen of the B-heptomino, so it's possible that this can be made in a similar way, although getting around the tub could be tricky. Marine has a non-centered Moore neighborhood and at least one gun with a very high period (11,843). I'm in the process of reducing the glider cost of universal construction.
