Getting the pi heptomino into that input position looks even harder than getting a signal out again.

Every now and then on this thread I try to convince everyone to always start with a known conduit that outputs signal X, when you're placing catalysts to affect an input signal X. Otherwise, the things people find always seem to be Potentially Cool Except They Can't Possibly Be Used.

EDIT by dvgrn: Bureaucratic maintenance question: Is there any reason to keep old versions of the ECC draft around after a new one comes out? Seems like it would work to just update one post, and then link back to it whenever an update happens. I've updated the first-post link to point to this post.
I keep hoping that someone will update the conduit-sorting script for the two-dimensional layout. I actually downloaded the entire EEC folder earlier today to do it myself, but I didn't see import golly in the conduit-sorting script, so I assume that I got the wrong file.

Yes. Maybe that should just be called a house catalyst or house-type catalyst in situations where the specific manner in which the house is stabilized is irrelevant.

### Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits

I did notice that that the designed shape for the "I-heptamino" was now altered to be descripbed with an nonomino. I did arbritrarily choose "I" over "H", which is also leads to the same nonomino, but I guess H makes sense it current used by the D heptamino (which used to be referred to as the "J" heptamino? forum archeology required here). For the sake of posterity, I would use the logo for I have here, even though it does not seem to have a clear lineage to it since: (1- is it smaller, 2- it is a contiguous shape). The only thing is that it change the time on all the conduits, but that's is not and issue. Of course, this is my personal option ^^.

Code: Select all

``````x = 96, y = 23, rule = LifeHistory
3\$4.2D10.2D4.2D5.3D6.3D\$4.D.D8.D6.D.D4.D8.D21.D.D9.3D\$4.2D9.D6.D.D4.
``````
I guess did not notice that the C in the collection is not the same as the original C heptomino. there is a hexomino precursor for that one anyways.

A honey farm predecessor that has been perturbed by a fishhook can perturb a block in almost the right way, but a spark hits the table. Is there a way to fix that?

Of course, a block, boat, or certain other pieces of junk that were created in the same place as the fishhook in the same reaction that created the honey farm work, but the necessary perturbation is even more general than that. Here is an example (which also hints at a way to reduce the repeat time of the Snark to 41):

I have historically worked on conduits, but recently, I've been working on glider syntheses and investigating SnakeLife.

A honey farm predecessor that has been perturbed by a fishhook can perturb a block in [mostly] the right way, but a spark hits the table. Is there a way to fix that?

Code: Select all

``RLE``
I've known this solution for a while now:

Code: Select all

``````x = 19, y = 13, rule = B3/S23
6b2o\$ob2obobo\$2obobo\$3bobo\$3b2o2\$6b2o\$6b2o3\$16b2o\$17b2o\$17bo!
``````
However, using this catalysis at generation 10 of the R-pentomino fails because of an extra dot spark emitted. In addition to the signal-generating catalysis, I also found this improbably small alternate mechanism that, while it doesn't fit within the standard Herschel evolution, allows for this awkward R-to-Q:

Code: Select all

``````x = 19, y = 19, rule = LifeHistory
Code: Select all
That completes my partial (or did you find that catalysis a while before the 5c/9 signal inserter?). It's a shame that it isn't connectable.
Code: Select all
Actually, I got my snake-type interactions with the c/2 forward movement mechanism of a honey farm predecessor when it has especially high density fluctuations mixed up. This is what I was thinking of:
Code: Select all
``````x = 27, y = 20, rule = B3/S23
22b2o\$22bo\$24bo\$4b2o14b5o\$5bo13bo\$5bobo12b3o\$6b2o15bo\$11b2o7b4o\$12b2o

I found a solution based on that in Symbiosis a while back.
