This is actually pretty crazy. While working on a component to solve xs21_39s0gz32gv056, I ended up with a bizarre, oddball, scenario with a B inserter on the left. The usual two methods fail:
Code: Select all
x = 33, y = 41, rule = B3/S23
14bo$13bobo$13b2o5$9bo$9b2o$2b2o4bobo$2ob2o$4o$b2o18$24b2o$22b2ob2o$
22b4o$23b2o3$31b2o$18b4o8bobo$17bo3bo10bo$21bo$17bo2bo!
Now, it seems the only way to get the B in is to mutate it from an XWSS by removing the backend. Except you can't put an LWSS, MWSS, or HWSS above in the right position, since it's too close to the LWSS below. You could use an MWSS or HWSS below in a way that interacts with an XWSS above as a 2XWSS flotilla, but the cleanup appears like it would put a block in a very annoying position for anyone who's trying to use said component:
Code: Select all
x = 53, y = 24, rule = B3/S23

While this is perfectly fine for xs21_39s0gz32gv056, if we weld something above in only a slightly cumbersome way, the cleanup doesn't fit at all.
Code: Select all
x = 53, y = 26, rule = B3/S23

However, if you are sufficiently crazy enough, you can even deal with that, too.
...
I am 100% serious when saying that I was able to get much better clearance by using an escorted OWSS flotilla.
Code: Select all
x = 50, y = 49, rule = B3/S23

And yes, I was able to tweak a synthesis for a different flotilla to synthesize this one.
